We, the Green Schools Committee, have noticed that many of the students get to school by driving. Of course this is sometimes necessary, due to living far away from the school, but for many of the students they are within walking distance from the school. Driving leads to pollution and health risks and is the reason why Ireland has the third highest emissions of greenhouse gases per capita in the EU. We ask that those who can walk or cycle, please do so and those who do drive to and from school to turn their engines off while parked outside of the school. Every 1 minute spent Idling is equal to 1 km of driving. And for every 5 minutes spent idling, 1kg of CO2 is released. Thank you for reading this statement and we hope that you consider doing your part in helping the planet and cleaning the air. The Green Schools Committee
Irish Architecture Foundation- Architects in Schools workshop

The school ran a workshop as part of the 'Architects in Schools' initiative with Ghinlon Architects on Friday 7th February. Architect Ghinlon Wang hosted the event in which he outlined how to become an architect and what the career entails. The main element of the workshop was a design task that required students to design a device/ costume that allowed a superhero of their choice to socially distance from others. The students really enjoyed sketching out their ideas and using models to test their solutions. They arrived with some very innovative and clever designs. Please see photos attached of the students work. They really engaged with the process and seemed to enjoy the event. The workshops provided a valuable insight into the design process and how architects think and work. There were a number of students present who are very interested in studying architecture and can use the experience when preparing a portfolio for college courses and interviews. Many thanks to Mr. Fitzpatrick for his help in organising this workshop Please click 'view gallery' to see all images.

Some of our Senior Chemistry students took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools' Analyst Competition on Friday 7th May 2021. The Schools' Analyst Competition is run annually by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) across the UK and Ireland. This year Naas CBS was chosen to be one of the competitors. Our students put in up to 3 hours of analysis on Friday to identify unknown substances. They submit their findings and research to the RSC to be judged. The results will be shared with the school in June. Fingers crossed for all our entrants. They did a wonderful job on Friday. Whatever the overall outcome is, we are so proud of our students' efforts. There are definitely a few future scientists in the mix. Very well done gentlemen. Many thanks to everyone in the Naas CBS community that have donated toward the 'Darkness into Light' event. So far we have raised almost €3000! Every €20 that you donate today can help Pieta’s therapists answer two calls to the 24/7 Crisis Helpline. We will keep our donation option in the school 'shop' open until next Monday 10th May for any final donations that you might like to make. Thank you again for the wonderful contribution you have made to Pieta House. Because we can’t gather together in groups for large organised walks, people are finding all sorts of wonderfully creative ways to take part and help make hope shine. Many thanks to all our teachers for their help this week in bringing individual classes out for walks in support of 'Darkness into Light' and well done to all our students for getting involved to help raise funds for Pieta House.
