Our 1st year footballers made their Kerry Colleges debut on Wednesday 27th March in Caherslee GAA grounds vs Milltown Pres. This turned out to be an exhilarating contest between the North Kerry side and the favourites for the competition. Encouraged by their win in the recent North Kerry blitz, brimming with confidence our young hungry side put all efforts into causing a major upset in the Brendan O Shea Cup. We started brightly in the contest and led by 2-2 to 1-3 after 15 minutes. Goals from Conor Egan and the lively Jamie Moloney being the real difference between the sides. Our forward line proved to be crucial to this battle and Glin’s Billy Hogan showing his class throughout setting up scores for others to profit from. Our mission was not made any easier with the loss of our centre back Harry Tobin after 20 minutes, however man of the match Jack O’ Donoughue proved to be a perfect replacement. At half time the score was 2-6 to 2-5 in favour of the West Limerick/North Kerry outfit. In the second half the game ebbed and flowed, our men began to show their class and the introduction of John Coohihan gave stability and a goal with 10 minutes to go that pushed our lead to 4 points. After some heroic saves from Bobby O’Riordan the tie swung in our favour in the final few minutes, the introduction of Evan Curry and free scoring forward Jack Finnerty McCoy proved to be the deciding factor in this epic battle and we ran out 4-11 to 4-8 winners. Credit to the whole panel of players who dug deep and showed great courage. Our journey continues next week with our opposition yet to be confirmed in the semi – final. Roll on!!
