Message for parents/guardians of First Years
Created : 08 Sep 2020, 9:28 PM
Archived : 08 Nov 2020, 12:00 AM
To 1st years and their parents/guardians, In order to keep bags as light and as easy to carry as possible, first year students will be able to leave books/materials on their desks in their base room in the evenings. These books must be left in plastic zip folders to allow for cleaning. Students will need to double check they are bringing home whatever they need to complete homework/assignments. Meitheal are going to work with their groups looking at each form's timetable, helping them to work out what books can be left at home/school on different days. We need all 1st years to have journals asap and so could parents please make sure to purchase one, if they haven't already done so. 1st years have been a pleasure to deal with and have brought such energy, enthusiasm and good manners to their classroom and to our corridors. They have been exemplary in the way they have worn their masks and followed hygiene protocol and I think it's important we acknowledge how brilliant they've been, especially in light of the new way of doing things.

Message for the Class of 2020 from your Year Head Ms Griffin

Hi girls, ‌ 20 years ago (August 16th 2000 to be exact!) I received my own LC results. Despite the years that have passed, I can so clearly remember the extremities of emotions in the days leading up to getting the envelope. I was nervous and apprehensive, but also strangely excited and relieved that there would finally be a concrete ending, a list of definitive results that meant I could at last make real decisions about the next step. Unlike your class of 2020, we didn't have the anxiety of a Pandemic to contend with, the almost weekly flip flopping of decision making about what the LC would look like or the intense media speculation about the exams. So at last, tomorrow, some certainty is finally given to the students of 2020. This time last year I gave the first assembly of our year. We all naively thought that it would be a 6th year like the previous 20 ones and so I spoke of stress, of expectations around uniform and study, behaviour and engagement. But I also spoke of how you had to simultaneously wear two different caps in 6th year - that of the exam student working their way through CAO, UCAS, apprenticeship, PLC applications and, most importantly, that of the young woman now finishing 13 or 14 years of compulsory education. So tomorrow starts the end of the former. Over the week offers will come your way, decisions will be made, future paths start taking on a more definite shape. However, in the midst of all that this week brings, we in SCR will be thinking of how proud we are of you as people, not just as numbers or grades. I sincerely hope that each of you take a few quiet moments at some stage to do the same, to value who you have become and what you are about to bring to the world. Good luck tomorrow ladies. Ms Griffin.

To 1st years and 1st year parents and guardians, We are looking forward to seeing you again in the morning. We hope that you have had a good rest after your busy day on Monday. You probably have questions to ask after all that you saw and heard, so Meitheal girls will be on hand to answer on anything you're still unsure about. We will also do another tour of the school so that you become more familiar with the building. Your subject teachers will also drop by to introduce themselves during the course of the day. Just a few reminders for the day ahead: When you arrive at school Ms Griffin, Ms Dollard and the Meitheal team will be waiting to welcome you outside. We will then direct you to your entrance (which is through the 1st year court yard). Please bring in your packs that you received on Monday. You will be in your base classrooms with your Meitheal leaders and tutors. School finishes at 1.15 on a Friday so you only need to bring a small lunch for the shorter break. If anyone is still to pay for and/or collect their journal, Ms Thornton will be available tomorrow to help. Please make sure to wear a mask and to bring a spare mask in your bag. We will see you bright and early in the morning girls. Looking forward to seeing more of the enthusiasm and energy you showed on Monday.

Welcome back to Second Years

We are delighted to be welcoming back our Second Years tomorrow Thursday 3rd September and helping you to settle back into school again. Your Year Head Mr Heveran and tutors have been working hard and preparing for your return. They will greet you at the main entrance to the school which will be your year group entrance for the school year. A white board will be at the main door to indicate your new base classroom. As advised by the Department of Education, we have to maximise social distancing and minimise movement to ensure a safe learning environment for all. For this reason, an extra form group has been added in Second Year and students have been placed in forms according to their subject options. This will provide smaller class sizes in your year. Your tutors will meet with you in your classroom for the first period where you will then have your Assembly on MS Teams. You will only need to bring your Irish and Science books tomorrow. Please remember you must wear a mask and bring a plastic bag for storage. You should have a second mask in your bag. Bring your lunch and a drink. School will be finished for you and 6th years at 12.20pm tomorrow and you will return to school next Monday to start full days. We are all looking forward to your return!
