Midterm is just about taking it easy and some of our SCR athletes proved. Congratulations to 5th Year student Ciara Byrne who was named 'Sports Star of the Month' by Tommy Buggy and LaoisToday. This was in recognition of the outstanding achievement of winning 3 All Ireland basketball titles within 5 days, beginning when she led the school's U-19's team as captain and picked up the MVP award as top scorer. Ava O' Connor (5th year) achieved a time (4.26) under the performance standard (4.33) meaning she is eligible for selection for the Irish team to compete in the European U18 championships in Rieti, Italy in July. Congratulations to Laura Mooney (6th Year) who won gold at the Leinster Championships at the weekend, in the Junior 3000m. Laura led the way from 1000m and ran a PB.

It's been a busy few weeks in debating in Scoil Chríost Rí. Billie Constantinou and Caoimhe Moore (3rd year) progressed as a team, and Katie Lalor (2nd year) progressed to the Quarter Finals of UCD Junior Debating (27th February). Hard luck to the fantastic Sharon Karki and Mary O'Brien who went out after the Octo Finals. Tonight Anna Lee Dowling (6th ), Briony Heffernan-Price (5th) and Kate Major(TY) take part in the Quarter Finals of Leinster Schools Debating in Trinity. We wish them the best of luck! Coming up the week after midterm we have 80 1st years starting their debating league. The Debating Committee have been working behind the scenes to organise the league. It's so rewarding to see our Senior students guide and encourage our juniors in such a real and important way. The future for SCR debating is looking bright
