Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Please see attached a letter in relation to spaces available on the TY Camino Trip 2023.
Kind regards,
Ms. Phelan.
Last call to return tickets and any money collected to reception. All students must return their booklets, whether the tickets have been sold or not, no later than tomorrow morning. The draw will take place tomorrow at lunchtime in the GPA with the top prize being an amazing 32'' Samsung TV courtesy of Servcom. All hampers are packed full of luxury items so make sure you are in with a chance of winning by purchasing a ticket! A huge thank you to all who contributed, most especially, the Parents' Council who have worked tirelessly in securing amazing gifts to make sure that this is the best Christmas Raffle in town!
Another busy week in the TY Calendar. The week started with the exciting announcement of the annual Terenure Musical - The Addams Family.
It was a nice way to start assessment week and bring plenty of smiles to our TY’s faces. TY’s have been very busy the last few days with their assessments, however, not too busy to miss out on some festive cheer. The REPS have been busy elves decorating the TY Coordinator’s and form tutors doors.
This week saw a number of students enter the Generation €uro Students’ Award. Well done to all who have signed up and we wish them the very best of luck as they move forward to round one representing OLS.
Congratulations to our TY Enterprise class who put on a fantastic Christmas Fair on Wednesday. There were plenty of treats and potential presents on offer.
It was Ms. Bradley’s class's turn to visit Fighting Words this week. This workshop is certainly proving to be popular amongst our students.
Students also had the opportunity this week to put their name forward for the OLS Camino trip and the 5th Year Ski trip.
TY sign ups this week included Maynooth Universities Mathematics Enrichment Programme, and our Annual Terenure GOAL Mile, on St. Stephen’s Day. Well done to all our TY students who have been working hard in the background on the promotion of the GOAL Mile.
Santa and his Reindeer were busy this week making an early stop off at OLS. Festive cheer was in the air as Ms. Phelan’s Office started to explode with TY Hoodies. Make sure to collect your Hoodie if you haven’t done so already. Again well done to the TY Enterprise class on their Entrepreneurial skills!
Next week will see our TY4’s visit the sisters on Monday for their coffee morning in aid of Oasis Centre (Counselling and Therapy Dublin City Centre). Please remember to bring money and a face mask.
On Monday, those who have signed up for the Bank of Ireland School bank will meet with Laura Ryan, Youth Coordinator of Bank of Ireland, for an introductory talk on the School Bank. Laura will also prepare our students for their Bank position interviews in January.
Sports Trip
All the Second Years went on a trip to Sport Ireland. They had great fun trying a variety of sports including athletics, basketball and gymnastics.
Gifts to the Crib
Today members from the charity committee helped pack up all the gifts that were donated by students and staff at OLS. The charities our Gifts to the Crib support are Saint Vincent de Paul, Saoirse Women’s refuge, Dogs trust Ireland, Temple Street and Crumlin children’s hospitals.
Craft Fair
The Enterprise class held their Christmas craft fair. They were selling various items such as Christmas cookies, lip glosses, necklaces, hot chocolate jars, and homemade candles.
Grinch Display
M1 created a poster on The Grinch filled with info in as Gaeilge.
Well done to all our TY students on completing their exams today. The final countdown is on!
Our TY students have proudly been working on the promotion of The GOAL Mile, taking place on St. Stephen's Day at Terenure College from 11am-1pm.
With just a few days left to our big Christmas Raffle we thought we would share another little peak inside some of our hampers! Lucky winners might just walk away with some of the following:
A generous voucher from one of our donors like Studio 6 Hairdressers; Life Pharmacy; Posy Bakes; Mick Dowling Sport; John Ryan Photography or perhaps one of the many One4All vouchers available.
Perhaps, some DIY over the Christmas? Well look no further than a set of screwdrivers and drill bits or a €100 voucher for Templeogue Decor.
With plenty of chocolates, biscuits, wine and fizz to be won there is something for everyone on offer so make sure to buy your tickets in time!
The school reports for the November Assessments have now been published on VSware for parents and students to view. We would like to congratulate all of our students on their achievements to date this year. It is important for each student to pay close attention to the guidance given by teachers on these reports so as to continue to make improvements and move their own learning forward.
Just 5 more sleeps left to the big OLS Christmas Raffle Draw! Our hampers are swelling very nicely thanks to the wonderful donations, such as:
Gift vouchers galore from Templeogue Decor, Terenure Office Supplies, Spawell Golf Centre, Easy Garden Centre and many, many more.
Or perhaps you fancy pampering yourself with our Beauty Care Hamper, Ritual Body Set or even a David Beckam Toilet Sets.
From a stylish tablet computer to a luxurious food hamper, we have your Christmas presents covered. So why not buy a ticket or two from one of our students or vist the Easy Payments Plus button on our website to purchase additional booklets. There's still time to contribute a gift to one of the hampers also by dropping your donation into reception.
Draw to take place on Tuesday 20th December.
Advent candle
Megan lit the third candle of Advent on Monday. The pink candle symbolises joy that comes from Christ in our lives to truly be joyful and simple.
German Christmas
GerNikolaus arrived to the German classes of OLS on 6th December. In Germany, children clean their boots and leave them outside for Nikolas to fill with chocolate. We aren't convinced that the boots were too well cleaned, maybe the girls' good behaviour made up for it?
First year Assembly
All First Year students had an end of term assembly during pastoral care on Tuesday with Ms. Donlon and their Form teachers. The students looked back on photos of their time in OLS so far. Certificates and prizes were then handed out to each student with the most merits. Well done to Amelia, Layla, Eva Marie, Ellen, Sarah and Megan for coming top place in their class. A big congratulations to B1 for winning best class overall with 239 merits. Keep up the good work everyone!
The Science of Snow
Ms Floods science class braved the snow to investigate the latent heat of fusion!
Christmas Doors
The Third Year classes are competing in a Christmas door decoration competition. There are some very creative designs on display.
Gifts to the Crib
We held our annual Gifts to the Crib today. Students brought in various gifts to be donated such as gift cards, care packages, dog food/treats, dog toys, food hampers and children's toys and clothes. After a beautiful ceremony students were asked to bring their gifts up to their house tree. Thank you to the Charity Committee and Le Chéile Council for organising. Gift donations can still be made until Friday morning!
