Brian from Nore Valley Park Pet Farm and Activity Centre Kilkenny arrived today to OLS and spoke to Ms Flannery's Ag science class on how to hatch out the eggs and look after the chicks when they hatch. The girls learned all about eggs, the difference between fertile & infertile eggs, breeding, egg structure and development, importance or humidity and turning the eggs, not to mention how to feed the chicks when they hatch. So they'll be total EGGsperts when the chicks go back to the pet farm!

All week we are celebrating reading here at OLS. The theme for this year is JUST READ!
Our 'One School, One Book' is the wonderful ‘The Weight of Water’ by Sarah Crossan. We will all read this together as a whole school for the week anytime we get a chance, so be sure to have your book in your bag at all times!
Sarah Crossan will be visiting the school in November to talk to us about her books and writing, she will also do a book signing so hang on to your book if you enjoy it and would like to meet her.
Thursday morning has been set aside for a more whole-school approach to Reading Week.
The theme for Thursday is Hats Off to Reading!
Staff and students are invited to wear a hat on the day and a prize for best hat will be awarded. So, get your thinking caps on over the next few days.
There will be plenty of DROP EVERYTHING AND READ sessions all week, as well as book quizzes, reading aloud , and competitions.
JUNIOR Competition: Design a bookmark to promote reading in OLS – the winner will have their bookmark professionally printed for all students of OLS
SENIOR Competition: Design a poster promoting the benefits of reading - winning poster is printed and put up around the school building for this academic year.
Happy Reading!
