Message from Easy Payments

Dear parents/guardians, In case you had tried to pay outstanding class expenses over the weekend we received the following message from Easy Payments: "As a result of a technical error over the weekend, your clients were unable to make any payments on Saturday 13/03/2021 or Sunday 14/03/2021. Any instalment plans which were due to run on these days will run over the coming days. The issue has been resolved and and payments are running as normal today. We apologise for any inconvenience caused." The system is working fine now if you wish to make a payment. With thanks J Leonard
#MoreThanSchool – what school means to young people

School is back and the Ombudsman for Children’s Office wants to hear from young people. We know that school is about more than education. It’s about friends, fun and a chance for children to be themselves, away from their family. We’ve heard from teachers and parents, from unions and the Department of Education. Now we want to hear from the young people. We’re running a campaign to hear directly from children about how they feel about going back to school and we’re looking for your support. Are they nervous? Are they excited? What is their favourite thing about school? How has school changed during the pandemic? Their Covid-19 School Hero? What is the reality of homeschool? We are asking children and young people to send us a video, a photo, a comment, a reel – anything that shows what going back to school means to them. At the end of the process a panel of judges, made up of young people, will select a winner and four runners up. An ipad and other prizes are up for grabs. #MoreThanSchool will run from Monday 15th March to Monday 12th April. When a student sends us their entry we will make contact to get permission from them and their parents to share it online or on our social accounts. If we don’t get permission, we will not be able to use the entry and we will delete it from our records. If we receive information that makes us think a young person may be in danger or at risk of being hurt, we will have to follow up on this. Candidate Self Service Portal - Important message from SEC for 6th years - please read carefully

Dear Principal, As you are aware the Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) opened on Wednesday of last week to allow Leaving Certificate candidates to confirm their subject and level entry details online, and to indicate whether they wish to sit the examinations, to receive SEC Accredited Grades, or both. The Portal will close tomorrow, Tuesday 16th March, at 6 pm and as of this morning, there is an estimated 18,000 candidates who have not yet registered. The registration process is extremely important because, not only does it allow candidates to register and opt for the examinations and/or accredited grades, but will also allow candidates to confirm their subjects and level in late April or early May; access their examination results; view their estimated percentage mark and component marks; view scripts which were marked on-line; lodge an appeal; access their appeal results, view their appealed component marks and access the independent appeals scrutineers process. Given the range of services to be provided through the Portal, I would ask you to establish if there are any candidates in your school who have not yet registered or completed the registration process and actively encourage those candidates to do so before it closes at 6 pm tomorrow. Registration on the portal is a very simple process and involves 3 stages; registration, account activation, confirmation of subjects and opt to sit the examinations or accredited grades or both. On completion of all 3 stages, candidates will receive a confirmation e-mail from the SEC. To date a number of students have also only completed stage 1 of the registration process so it is equally important to encourage any such candidate in your school to complete the process. You can ignore this for students who you have already informed us that they are no longer attending your school. Please remind candidates to read the ‘Before you Start Guide’ which takes them through the process before they commence the registration process. I would be grateful if you could remind the candidates who have yet to register of the following before they hit the Submit button on the portal: When they have made their choices for each subject and BEFORE they hit the Submit button, they should carefully review their selections to ensure they are correct. When they see the Warning do not ignore it; check the page again. They will not be able to go back to alter their choices on the portal at this time. I would also ask that, where feasible, you make your IT facilities available to your students so that they will all have the opportunity and facilities to complete this very important process. Please note if they have any difficulty registering please ring the helpdesk at 1800 1135 or 1800 1136 during 9am and 6pm or email the details including your candidate number to candidateportal@examinations.ie and we will be able to assist you. Thanking you in anticipation of your urgent attention to this matter.

They are planning to lobby our government on a number of issues John brought to their attention about the Developing World. Sincere thanks to John for giving his time so generously to speak with us.
Assessment and reporting arrangements for 3rd year students 2021

Dear students and parents/guardians, I hope this message finds you well. As you know, currently the government plan as part of the phased reopening of schools is for 3rd Year students to return to school after the Easter holidays on April 12th. We are really looking forward to having you back with us. I have to pay tribute to the students for the level of engagement that continues in these challenging circumstances. We know that remote learning is not the same as being in school, but so many of you are continuing to make the most of the opportunities being provided to you to continue to learn. On that note I must also thank your teachers and your parents for supporting you during this time. Well done to all! As you know, the government announced that the Junior Cycle exams would not proceed this year and that schools would receive guidance on how to assess and report on students’ learning for the Junior Cycle class of 2021. I am pleased to say that the guidance issued during this week and we have put together a plan for the remainder of remote learning and your return. One of the central themes of the guidance was the need to maximise tuition time / learning and avoid over assessment. The whole school approach being adopted in CPC is: • An assessment window from 10th May to 21st May (a timetable will be issued shortly which will involve an assessment of one hour duration each day over the 2 week period for each subject. Normal classes will run for the rest of the day apart from the assessment class period.) • The assessment would be based mainly on work from 3rd year (and may contain some work covered during remote learning) • An overall mark will be awarded to each student made up of a split of 70% for students' learning over the 3 year programme as awarded by their teacher and 30% for the additional May assessment • All assessments to be inclusive of students with SEN with differentiated approaches where relevant • Tuition during the week of 24th May as normal until classes finish on May 28th • Reports detailing progress and achievement in each subject, CBA descriptors, other aspects of achievement including in the wellbeing programme as soon as feasible following the completion of the school year. For students it is important to follow your teacher’s guidance in preparing for the May assessment which will be worth 30% of your overall mark. It is equally important that you continue to engage to a high level in remote learning and all other in-class work when we return, including all classes up to May 28th as this will be part of your teacher’s consideration for the other 70% of your mark as well as your work over the entire 3 year programme. As you are aware the Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) opened at 12 noon yesterday to allow Leaving Certificate candidates to confirm their subject and level entry details online, and to indicate whether they want to take the examinations, or to receive SEC Accredited Grades, or both. We are receiving communications from candidates who registered on the portal yesterday to inform us that they have omitted or made errors in their selection on the portal. We are working through the emails that we have received from these students or their school, and we will be following up on these as soon as possible. There is no need to make contact with us again. We will confirm that these changes have been made in due course. I would be grateful if you could remind the candidates who have yet to register of the following before they hit the Submit button on the portal: When they have made their choices for each subject and BEFORE they hit the Submit button, they should carefully review their selections to ensure they are correct.
