DES Statement
Schools to Remain Closed Tomorrow – Tuesday 17 October 2017
Following careful consideration by the National Emergency Coordination Group, the Department of Education and Skills, has decided that all schools will remain closed tomorrow.
This decision was primarily taken in the interests of child safety and on the basis of information available in what is a developing situation. While it is recognised that some schools may not be as badly impacted as others, the information available at this time indicates that over 350,000 businesses and homes are already without power, and severe winds continue to cause damage across the country as the storm progresses. Many regional and local roads are closed due to fallen trees.

Congratulations to Seán Donoghue who finished his schools Track and Field season by adding the 1500m All-Ireland crown to the Leinster and West Leinster titles. The Irish Life Health Schools track and field championships are taking place this weekend in Tullamore. Seán's race took place yesterday, Saturday 3rd June 2017, where he ran to a perfectly executed plan by staying on the leaders shoulder until the last lap and then pulled away strongly to win by 20m. Seán adds the Track and Field accolade to the All-Ireland cross-country title he won earlier this Spring.
Although the schools' season has drawn to a close he will be busy competing over the summer and training with both club (Celtic DCH) and national teams. We wish him continued success and also to Dáire Finn who hopefully will return to form after he has completed his Leaving Certificate examinations.
Our thanks is also due to Mr Burke who has worked with the school's athletics team throughout the year.
