La Glas Fundraising Day for Trocaire

Well done to the Transition Year students and the members of the Green Schools Committee for organising La Glas on 16th March. All students in the school wore green on the day and there were prizes for some of the best dressed. The money raised during the day was donated to the Trocaire Lenten Appeal.

Gaming Workshop

Many thanks to Brenda Romero for hosting a gaming workshop in the school on Saturday 11th March for students interested in game development and in particular computer game development. Over 20 students attended the workshop and created several games. They learned a great deal about game design.
All Ireland U17 Soccer Finalists

Congratulations to our U17 soccer team who reached the All-Ireland final. The girls were narrowly beaten on the day by St. Laurence's College, Loughlinstown, Dublin. The score was 2-2 at full time and it remained drawn at the end of extra-time. The match then went to penalties and at the end of the penalties it was drawn. Following that it went to sudden-death penalties and the girls were narrowly beaten. The girls gave their all and were very unlucky to be beaten at the very end. Everyone in the school is very proud of the manner in which they played the match.
Maezza Wins NUIG Literary & Debating Award

Congratulations to TY student Maezza Brathwaite who recently won the NUIG Literary & Debating Society Award for Best Opinion Piece. Maezza was presented with her award at a ceremony in NUIG.

Award winning computer game designer, Brenda Romero, will hold a workshop for students interested in computer game development in Dominican College on Saturday 11th March 2017. Tickets will be available from 1st March. Further details to follow.
U17 Soccer Team win All-Ireland Semi-Final

Congratulations to our U17 soccer team and their coach Mr. Drea who beat St. Columba's Comprehensive School, Donegal 5-0 in the All-Ireland semi-final.
Le Cheile Conference 2017

Two of our 5th Year prefects, Katie Feeney and Eabha Ni Chonlain, recently attended the Le Cheile Schools Trust conference along with Mr. Kinsella, Ms. Byrnes and Mr. Keaveney (BoM Chairperson). The keynote speaker at the conference was the founder of Pieta House, Ms. Joan Freeman. The theme of the two day conference was Hope and the girls, along with the students from the other 51 Le Cheile schools celebrated hope and faith. The photograph below shows Katie, Eabha and girls from the other Dominican schools in the Republic of Ireland.
