Congratulations to Eoghan McGinnity on winning the Ulster Colleges 40x20 Juvenile Handball Title at Kingscourt HC. A fantastic achievement. Well Done!
The Ulster Colleges Handball championships were played last weekend at Kingscourt Handball Club and Monaghan Harp's Handball Club . St. Macartan's was represented in every grade with juveniles Ronan Boyle (St. Mellan's HC) and Ryan Harnett (Emyvale HC) performing well in the U 13 doubles competition reaching the semi final and exiting at the hands of the eventual winners Diarmuid Gallagher and Cahir Monroe. Aaron Mohan (St. Mellan's HC) also competed well in Intermediate singles competition reaching the final which he lost to Ronan Curran. Gary Mohan (St. Mellan's HC) and Justas Dambinskas (Monaghan Harps HC) had a comfortable win in their first round match but found the going a lot more difficult in round two which they lost to Lorcan McBride and Antoin Fox from Omagh CBS. In the Intermediate section Gary McKenna (St. Mellan's HC), Ryan Mohan (St. Mellan's HC) and Conor Mohan (Tydavnet HC) acquitted themselves admirably in what proved to be very competitive ties. Ramunas Ramanauskas (Monaghan Harps HC) represented the Sem in the senior singles section which was played at Gavin Duffy on Sunday last. After a very impressive semi final victory Ramunas was unlucky not to take the senior title in the final. Highlight of the weekend was Eoghan McGinnity's (Monaghan Harps HC) performance which saw him add the Ulster Colleges 40x20 title to the 60 x 30 title he won earlier in the year. This he did with a very strong performance against Darragh Curran from Dean Maguire school in the final.

January 31, 2015 Danske Bank MacRory Cup: St Patrick’s, Maghera (holders) 2-13 St Macartan’s, Monaghan 1-5
The weather proved difficult in a cold and snowy Emyvale and a strong breeze made things very difficult for both sides.
Saint Macartan's got off to a great start as they got the opening point thanks to Jamie McCarey but overall the holders handled the conditions better and dominated the opening half and led by 0-8 to 0-3 at the break.Their defence and midfield were on top of St Macartan’s and it was difficult to provide the Saint Macartan's forward line with a good supply of ball.
St Macartan’s best spell of play came early in the second half, but again Maghera’s defence was solid and eventually the pressure released and the SEM siege was lifted.
Macartan's did come back with points from Padraig Finnan and Eimhin Morahan. Almost immediately after Macartan's were awarded a penalty, and Eimhin Morahan found the net. It was not enough as St. Pat's Maghera march on.
St Macartan’s : T O’Brien, C Hand, J McKenna, D McElvanney, M Flood, C McIlwaine, C Leonard, F Hughes, S Treanor capt., E Morahan 1-1, 1-0 pen., P Finnan 0-2, N Kearns 0-1, J Mulligan, L McDermott, J McCarey 0-1.
Subs : C Byrne for C Leonard, M Savage for J McCarey, J Deery for D McElvaney, C Boyle for McDermott, S Grant for J Mulligan
