Dear Senior Cycle Student(s), Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
You are now considering the many options available to you after the Leaving Certificate including Apprenticeships, Further Education and Higher Education courses. Open Day season for all institutions is now in full swing. We know choosing a pathway after school is a significant decision we encourage both students and parents to attend relevant Open Days whenever possible. It is very helpful for parents/guardians to attend open days along with students themselves, as parents may have very relevant practical questions to ask regarding costs, accommodation etc. It is also reassuring for parents to see the institution their child may be attending. Details of upcoming Open Days can be found at https://careersportal.ie/media/index.php. Check regularly for updates relevant to you. Galway University Open Day is taking place this Friday and Saturday 4th and 5th October. You register on line to attend and can download the schedule of events happening on the day. https://www.universityofgalway.ie/opendays/.
On another note, 5th and 6th year students and parents are encouraged to attend the CAO and other Pathways Information evening in ATU Sligo being run by the Institute of Guidance Counsellors on 21st November 2024. Put this date in your diary. More details will follow closer to the date.
Today the 24th September, we celebrate Mercy Day. All over the world, hundreds of schools will take part in Mercy Day celebrations and it’s even more important than ever for us to take some time this year to pause and reflect on what being a Mercy school means to us all. We celebrated our Opening of School Year Mass today. The Sisters of Mercy founded our school in 1942, 82 years ago. The school began with only 2 rooms operating out of the convent next door. The past 8 decades has seen a lot of change and we continue to see continuous change today and into the future.
Our Opening of School Year Mass takes place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballymote, on Tuesday the 24th of September at 12pm. This Mass coincides with Mercy Day and we celebrate this occasion as a school community. We invite you to join us on Tuesday if you are available to do so.
The girls U20 soccer team had their first outing today in a very tightly contested match Vs Coola.
This young team battled well and leveled the game on two occasions with goals coming form Julia Dudziak & Lesley Ann Sweeney.
However, it was Coola who got the third and decisive goal to take home all three points.
Credit to the girls who put in a great team performance and will now play Enniscrone in two weeks time.
