Fundraiser for Alice

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Loreto College Foxrock’s Leadership Team is organising a fundraiser for a 9-year-old girl named Alice. She attends Carysfort National School in Dublin. Alice was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma in April 2022. Neuroblastoma is a rare, aggressive, and complex cancer of the central nervous system, mostly found in very young children. Unfortunately, it is also the most life-threatening form of cancer in children. Relapse is a huge concern even if the cancer goes into remission. Our school is trying to raise money for Alice to access life-saving cancer drugs to help her fight off the cancer.

To access the life-saving cancer drug, she must enter in a clinical trial at the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Centre in New York. This will involve trialling a vaccine that aims to trigger a response of the immune system against neuroblastoma. Cancer vaccines are another form of immunotherapy. They train the immune system to identify and destroy neuroblastoma cells lurking in the body after chemotherapy.

Loreto College Foxrock’s staff, 6th and 5th year class will take part in the ice bucket challenge on the 14th of December 2022 at 1:40 after school in honour of Alice.

Please help Alice access a life-saving cancer drug, by making a payment onto the app and donating the amount you want to give. Once we have collected all the donations, the school will donate the money to Alice’s Go Fund Me page under the school's name.

Thank you for your help and we hope you have a lovely Christmas time.

Kind regards,

The 6th Year Leadership Team

Dear Parents / Guardians, Our head of hockey Brendon Carolan is leaving us for 3 months to take on a role with Malaysian Hockey in their preparation for the upcoming Men's Hockey World Cup in January, returning in early February. We would like to wish Brendon the best of luck with this amazing opportunity which I'm sure our students will benefit from with his expertise and experience gained. While Brendon is away John Pearson will be in charge of all coaching and on pitch hockey, I will come on board with all hockey admin, team registrations and fixturing. We envisage the changeover to be seamless and our students will not see any disruption. Going forward the protocol for parents and students with queries re selection and playing we would ask parents to go directly to your daughters coach with queries and if not satisfied then please make contact with me on jbrock@loretofoxrock.ie. Communication will be through the usual channels of the school app and John will be the person in charge on match days. Looking forward to an enjoyable and competitive season of sport ahead.
