Microsoft Issues

Dear Parents/Guardians & Students A number of students have reported suspicious and abnormal activity in their Microsoft 365 email accounts. We have been informed that Microsoft are having global issues with their Microsoft Office platform and we are working with our IT department to correct this issue. Students are advised not to open these emails and to delete them from their account.

Dyslexia Courses Ireland are holding a Zoom webinar for parents on how to support their student with dyslexia at second level. It is on Wednesday 19th January 2022 at 7pm. Many parents of students with dyslexia struggle to know how to support the student at second level as the challenges are different to those experienced at primary level. This webinar aims to give practical help and advice. The topics addressed include: • How dyslexia affects the student at second level • How to support the student in the following areas • Organisation • Note-taking • Memory and Learning • Reading • Writing • Spelling and Vocabulary. • Key educational choices such as subject choice, language exemptions etc. • Resources such as useful websites. Presenter: Wyn McCormack worked as guidance counsellor and special education teacher as well as the parent of sons with dyslexia. She has designed and presented courses on dyslexia for teachers, parents and students since 1996. She is the author of the Factsheets on Dyslexia at Second Level (2014 and updated annually), Lost for Words 3rd Ed. 2007, and co-author of Dyslexia, an Irish Perspective 2nd Ed 2010 Cost The cost of the webinar is €21. School Reopening New Year January 2022

Good evening and wishing you all a very Happy New Year. We look forward to welcoming students and staff back to HFSS for the new year term tomorrow. We will continue to adhere strictly to our COVID 19 provision and safety planning (full details on www.holyfamily.ie). We remain committed to doing our utmost to ensure that staff and students are as safe as we can make possible in our school environment. With kindest regards, Sarah Allen The following information note was also received today from the Department of Education. Students and COVID-19 (Post Primary Schools) If a post primary student has tested positive for COVID-19:  They will be contact traced by the National Contact Tracing Team.  The National Contact Tracing Team will contact them and ask them to identify their close contacts.  The student who tested positive will have to isolate for 10 days from the day their symptoms started or for 10 days from the day they had the positive PCR test. The student can return to school after this isolation period, provided they do not have a fever/temperature during the last 5 days of their isolation period. Students who have symptoms of COVID-19 should stay at home, isolate and arrange to have a COVID-19 test. There are 2 types of COVID-19 test available from the HSE: antigen tests (home test kits) and PCR tests (done at a test centre and sent to a lab). Students (or anyone between 4 to 39 years of age) who has symptoms of COVID-19 are offered antigen tests firstly and they do not book a PCR test unless they get a positive antigen test result. Note – If a student is identified as a CLOSE CONTACT of a case in their HOUSEHOLD they will have to restrict their movement as per national guidelines for household close contact and get a COVID-19 test as soon as possible. Carol Singing at the Holy Family Convent

On Tuesday 21st December, our school choir treated the Holy Family Sisters to some much loved Christmas Carols from the Convent courtyard. It was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by all.

Dear parents, guardians and students, Welcome to our second TY newsletter, highlighting the main events since returning from the mid-term break in November. In line with our HFSS TY programme, our TY students have experienced 5 academic weeks, punctuated with a variety of new learning experiences, workshops, external speakers, along with a Work Experience week, an Activity weeks and 6 academic exams. 1st Year Cup

General
Today we held the second event of the annual First Year Cup. After completing a module in Basketball in PE over the past few weeks the students got to put their newly learned skills into practice. The event began with a whole class relay and then each class group played a match against the other class groups. On this occasion 1i were victorious. With more events planned in the new year it is neck and neck at the top of the leader board. The First Year Cup winners will be announced after the final events on sports day in May.
School closes at 12 noon on Wednesday, 22nd December for the Christmas break
