Dear Parents/Guardians & Students On behalf of the Board of Management, it is my privilege to welcome our “HFSS Scoop Summer Newsletter” for 2022. As you will see it gives a flavour of the rich learning environment here in Holy Family Secondary School and highlights many of the academic and sporting achievements of the past year. It also takes a look at the wonderful work undertaken by the students under the guidance of the Chaplaincy Team. Well done to everyone involved in producing the Newsletter and for giving us an insight into the life of the school over the past year. I hope you get a sense of the great atmosphere here in the school and learn a little about all the fun activities that are available to our students. On behalf of the Board of Management, I would like to thank the Principal Ms. Allen, the Deputy Principals Ms. Kissane, and Ms. O’Brien, the excellent teachers and dedicated support staff for all their wonderful work over the past year ensuring that the school continues to function to the high standard we have grown accustomed to. Many thanks also to the Parents Association for all their support and great work. Finally, I hope you all have a great summer and enjoy a well earned rest. This week in Holy Family was a busy one for our students. We had our Mental Health awareness week and our students wrote hundreds of positive messages on our well-being wall outside and inside throughout the school . Tutor time on Monday afternoon looked at the theme of kindness and how being kind helps both the giver and receiver. 3rd year classes had their full day of CSPE where they learned about the environment and explored ways to reduce their carbon footprint. They kick started a whole school action project to recycle batteries throughout the school. 2nd year classes had a full day of SPHE on Thursday, completing the Irish Heart Foundation’s course in hands only CPR, a stress management lesson, mindful walks, an art session and a movie exploring the theme of friendship.

Action Plan on Bullying and the Anti-bullying Procedures for Primary and Post-primary Schools.

The Department of Education has commenced work to review the Action Plan on Bullying and the Anti-bullying Procedures for Primary and Post-primary Schools. The review will take account of the significant developments and relevant research since the Action Plan and Anti-bullying Procedures were published in 2013. It will also specifically consider cyber bullying, identity bullying and sexual harassment, among other areas. The Department have been planning and organising as broad and inclusive a consultation process as possible as we believe it is of upmost importance that this work is informed by the views of all members of society. A key component of the consultation process is a public consultation where written submissions can be made and an online questionnaire can be completed. These submissions will help ensure that our work to prevent and tackle bullying in our schools will be informed by the views of as many children and young people, parents, school staff, education partners and individual members of the public as possible. This consultation process will open on Thursday 26 May 2022 and will remain open until Tuesday 21 June 2022. and is open to all who wish to participate. The consultation can be accessed on www.gov.ie/schools-anti-bullying-plan-review/
