Dear Parents/Guardians, 6th yr students are encouraged to apply before May 30th for the Naughton Scholarship - for students intending to study Engineering, Science or Technology at third level. It is worth 20,000euros over four years of college study. We last won this two years ago.
Please go to www.thenaughtonfoundation.com for details of the scholarship and the application process.
The scholarship programme was established in 2008 to promote the study of engineering, science and technology at third level in Ireland. Each year a number of exceptional students are awarded scholarships to study at undergraduate level at any publicly funded university or third-level institution in Ireland.
Thank you, Guidance Department
Work Experience planning for students going into Transition Year in August 22

Dear Parents/Guardians, Yesterday we met with third year students who are progressing into Transition year in August. We spoke about the importance and huge benefits of work placements during Transition year and gave each student - a sample CV, , a work experience calendar and information and tips on searching for placements.
We encourage students to do as many placements as possible during the year. They will do work placement each Friday - so it is recommended to spend 4 Fridays in one placement and then move to another. This way the students will get maximum benefit from a variety of placements and will be in a better position to select subjects for Senior Cycle and to make good future work/training or college choice decisions.
Please encourage and support your child with securing work placements - starting with typing up a CV. We strongly advise to begin looking now. Talk with you child about career areas they are interested in and focus on searching in these areas first.
MOST IMPORTANTLY DO NOT LEAVE THE SEARCH UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE AS THERE ARE SO MANY STUDENTS ALL SEEKING PLACEMENT ON THE SAME DAYS.
Be aware also that there are Transition Year weeks in some colleges - where students can attend lectures and do various activities in engineering, medicine etc some of which have been disrupted during Covid but hopefully will be back on again for next year. Search the website of the college you are interested in and follow application guidelines. The Gardai and Army also run Transition year week long activities - see relevant websites for details. Each year students cite Work Placement as the highlight of the year - it does involve some work to set up but the rewards are huge.
Thank you for your support. We hope that by return to school students will have at least Sept and Oct placements secured. Use the calendar to keep a record of placement details, phone, email and names of contacts.
Guidance Department.
