The second period of Work Experience begins for all Transition Years next week. All documents necessary for Work Experience are being distributed this week. It is important that all students get this documentation before they start their Work Experience. (Week 1 from Feb 10th and Week 2 from Feb 24th. It is compulsory that students have placements organised for these two weeks.) Included are daily diary sheets and Employer Packs, (which include a cover letter, an evaluation sheet that is to be completed by the employer, and a copy of the schools insurance policy.) In the event that your son doesn't get these by Friday then you should email me for a copy of same at sc@naascbs.ie. All of these are needed for their compulsory Work Experience project which will be due for handing in on the week of March 9th. (i) Daily Diaries (ii) Background information on the placements. (minimum 2 pages on each, max font size 14, to include also photos), (iii) Employer Evaluation sheets and (iv) Work Experience Reflection sheet. The employer documents have also been attached as PDF versions to this message. For any other queries please feel free to contact me. Regards, S.Coy

A number of our Transition Year students traveled to Bank of Ireland's head office in Baggot Plaza yesterday. The purpose of the trip was to promote accounting as a career option. The event was hosted by BOI and ACCA. The students got the opportunity to hear about BOI's graduate program and received talks from a sample of accountants who detailed the varied roles that they hold in BOI. There are over 500 different accounting roles in BOI across their various departments. Students then participated in a challenge where they had to design a product to sell at a music festival. They were split into groups of 6 and had to come up with a business plan, a marketing poster and deliver a 4 minute pitch to a group of judges. All groups delivered innovative products and excellent well structured pitches and answered questions posed by the judges. All groups displayed excellent teamwork skills, creativity, communication skills and the ability to think on their feet. The BOI judges were extremely impressed by the quality, behaviour and creativity of our students. Many thanks to Ms. Carter & Ms. Lennon for their work with this group.
