Transition year students attended the Young Adult Bookfest @ Listowel Writers' Week today in the Listowel, along with over 900 students from Kerry and Limerick. TY students had the opportunity to listen to inspirational speakers, writers, singers, a local sports personality and comedians in a busy and entertaining venue. Writers David Rudden and Brian Conaghan gave their valuable advice on tackling the composition in LC English paper one. Both writers have teaching and examining experience as well as being acclaimed novelists. Ciara Ní É, a gaeilgóir and poet, recited her celebrated work Phenomenal Woman and discussed her grá for gaeilge and the importance of being true to oneself. Two singer song-writers, the up and coming RTE folk award winning Emma Langford, and the internet sensation Stephanie Rainey, performed some of their songs and discussed their journies to success. Actor Shane Casey, the well known Billy Murphy from the hit series The Young Offenders, discussed the challenges he faced before he made it big in the Irish acting scene. Local solicitor and star of Ireland's Fittest Family, Robaird Pierse, told his story about the Pierse family's experience of training for, and taking part in the programme. Renowned motivational speaker, Declan Coyle, offered his advice on being positive during challenging times. The event's MC was Elaine Kinsella, the Listowel journalist who broadcasts on Radio Kerry and RTE. Kerry comedian, Bernard Casey, wowed the audience with his live performance of the Leaving Certificate Irish Aural Exam and entertained us all with his hilarious sketches. Overall, it was a very worthwhile and enjoyable day. Thank you to all the TYs who attended for their attention, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour representing Tarbert Comprehensive School.
