Careers Fair

Portlaoise College is holding a Careers Fair on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 24TH AT 7PM. All students and their parents from the locality are welcome to attend on the evening. There will be over thirty exhibitors attending including all major universities, Institutes of Technology as well as PLC colleges. In addition there will be information on Apprenticeships, An Garda Siochana and local employers. Furthermore, financial advice will be available on the night from Bank of Ireland, Portlaoise Credit Union and SUSI grants. Lastly, there will be three presentations on the evening covering the transition from post primary education to third level, qualifications and future pathways and careers in science, technology, engineering and maths. This event which is free of charge is an exciting opportunity for students and parents to attend.

Our U15 A Basketball team won the cup blitz yesterday held in Crescent Comprehensive School, Co. Limerick. This now qualifies them to the All Ireland Semi Finals to be played in February. The girls had to dig deep to come from behind in their first match. But this stood to them and they played extremely well in the remaining matches. The Senior A basketball team also had a comprehensive win over Clonaslee in the regional semi finals today.
Senior B Basketball

The Senior B Basketball team defeated Sacred Heart Tullamore in the All-Ireland semi final today by a score of 31-18. This was a fantastic result and now qualifies us for the final which will be played next Thursday, 30 November. The venue and opposition yet to be confirmed. This is the first time that this team have reached a national final and is a tremendous achievement. Everyone played with great SCR spirit today. Leah Loughman and Jennifer O'Neill scored some amazing baskets to keep us on top throughout the match.

Our junior soccer team took part in an indoor competition in Dublin today where they beat Moyne Community School 3 - 0 and Rochfortbridge 2 - 0. Despite a spirited performance, the girls lost narrowly to Loreto 3-2 in the final

The U14 A Cup basketball team played in a Blitz today in Carraigline, Co. Cork. All of the girls showed great spirit and skill throughout the three games but Castleisland from Kerry were the stronger team and will go through to the next round.

Glory Anumudu has successfully negotiated the school, county and regional Rotary Youth Leadership Development competition and will represent Ireland at the Stormont Assembly, the Dáil and the European Parliament in Strasbourg over the coming months. this is a tremendous achievement. Well done Glory!

Our Cadette A team beat a very strong Rathmore team from Kerry, in the All Ireland Quarter final today. The final score was 63-48. Grainne O'Reilly played a fantastic game in offence and defence. Some great scores also came from Shauna Dooley and Ciara Byrne. We await the date of the semi-final to come.
