We had a wonderful end-of-term celebration of the Christmas spirit in the Sports Hall this morning, prepared for us by the P5s and the RE and Music Departments. It was a meaningful and inspiring reflection on the theme of Joy to the World with beautiful music, singing, the annual display of cinematography with the OLS Toy Show and Staff Carpark Karaoke, followed by the traditional staff live 'performance' and a whole-school, roof-raising Christmas medley!! Well done to all involved! We wish the extended OLS community a peaceful and happy Christmas. Check out our Christmas newsletter here: olschool.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Newsletter-Dec-2019.pdf and some Christmas eco-tips in the attachment!

Please note that the Mid-Term Formative Assessment Reports are now live on VSware for 3rd and 6th Year students. Simply log in to VSware and click on Term Reports in the left column. Congratulations to all students on a successful first term. There are plenty of pointers in the reports to guide the learning and for students to take responsibility to move their own learning forward. Formative Assessment focuses on what learning has been achieved to date and what steps need to be taken for further improvement, rather than focussing on grades. More information regarding the nature of Formative Assessment can be viewed on our website under Curriculum, School Self Evaluation, A Brief Guide to Formative Feedback: olschool.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/A-Brief-Guide-to-Formative-Feedback-.pdf

OLS Christmas Knitathon 2019

Today marked the final day of the 2019 OLS Christmas Knitathon. We had a great number of scarves this year with the final count coming in at 122 scarves, 48 hats, and 1 jumper. We had great helpers down at lunchtime today to wrap all the knitted goods with a few sweets and a card to further spread the OLS Christmas cheer. This evening the Peter McVerry Trust collected them and will distribute them to their clients, who will be very grateful for the Christmas wishes and the thoughtful gifts. Well done to all who got involved whether it was knitting yourself, or getting assistance from family members and friends. This is a fantastic showing of the great charity and generosity that represent the Christmas Spirit in Our Lady's.
