TY Update & What's On Next Week

It was a busy week for the TYs! We had a Fighting Words workshop on Monday, a Development Day on Tuesday (Phoenix park cycle, 1916 rising walking tour, a retreat, First Aid and TY Transmission). We also had our first group visit Terenure College on Thursday evening for Toastmasters, a public speaking course. Today our TY reps were elected and completed their leadership training. TY1: Ella O'Rourke & Sarah Hand TY2: Jennifer Power & Mary Anne Harte TY3: Ella McCabe & Celine Butler TY4: Rachel Vaughan & Naomi O'Shea Next week, we are completing Work Experience documentation for the first block which starts on 18th October. We also have a school extra-curricular recruitment week so anyone looking for Gaisce activities (or just some fun and entertainment!) can sign up at Thursday's Club Sign Up event. Don’t forget to go to Tuesday morning’s rave before school organised by our own TY Wellbeing Committee! Also starting next week is the TY Tabletennis Tournament - some spaces still available - sign up on the Google Classroom. Don't forget, the Science blocks are rotating next week so you are going to a new teacher for a new branch of science!

Great to see so many of the Junior & Senior Camogie teams out on the astro yesterday at lunch for a quick drills session. We have huge potential in both teams this year. Definitely some all stars in the pipeline!
Bushy Park House and OLS

Did you know that Bushy Park House is connected to OLS as our school started in Bushy Park House when the Sisters of the Religious of Christian Education decided to make a girls school. Well done to the P1s who engaged in some local History research and examined the links between Bushy Park House and OLS.
Opening Year Ceremony

Today we held our annual Opening Year Ceremony and like last year it was done a little differently. Although we couldn't all gather together to celebrate like we used to, you could still feel the vibrant school community we have here in OLS. Well done to all the speakers who gave exceptional speeches today.
House

As September comes to an end we at OLS are firmly back into our routines. It has been a busy House September in OLS. The Sixth Year Council has been actively creating a great House Spirit throughout the school. Councillors have been getting to know their form classes, all students have received their House badges and the House Corridors are beginning to take shape. The first points have been awarded in the Inter House Cup Competition. Every House member had a part to play in earning these points, simply by wearing her House Badge. There will be plenty of opportunities throughout the year across a range of events and activities to help your House to victory. Let The Games Commence! Our new school Leaders have already been busy at work this year giving out a helping hand when needed and bringing the house community to life within OLS. This year we got a new leadership board which we proudly have on show at the entrance to our school.
Digital Champions Class Visits

This morning the Digital Champions visited each other's classes and raised awareness about the permanence of online posts and messages with a cautionary tale. Their theme was 'Think Before You Post!'. They also highlighted the damage trolling can do and how to avoid being an online bystander at all costs. Their presentations left an impression on our Second years and they will be visiting First year classes tomorrow to continue to raise awareness and promote positive online behaviour. Well done Digital Champions!
First Year Art Students explore portrait drawing in the school grounds

Ms. Maguire's First Year Art class took advantage of the lovely weather yesterday to work on some portraits 'en plein air'! The girls maintained excellent observation in this activity which resulted in some amazing drawings. Excellent work girls!!!
