5th Year Technology students completed their design challenge of building a radio controlled, Micro:bit powered race car during the week. They paired up to learn more about design, material selection, mechanism research, and advanced Micro:bit coding. They did all this whilst also building on the skills of working as a part of a team. Once built, we raced the cars around a masking tape lined, classroom race track. The winning car was built by Pawel and Niall. They used a clever gear system to increase the speed of the motors, leaving their competitors in their dust. Well done to everyone for getting involved.

Sincere thanks to Ms Moira Nolan (Guidance and Career Counsellor) for organising the Leaving Certificate Programme and Subject Choice Expo for our TY Students to assist them in making these important decisions. Ms Mills spoke about the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme. Subject teachers gave presentations outlining the demands of each course. This was then followed by an opportunity for students to speak with 5th and 6th Year students who are currently studying the subject. It was a fantastic experience and has added to the knowledge gained by our students through the subject sampling programme. Further support will be given to students and their parents/ guardians on a webinar scheduled for Wednesday 22nd March at 7pm in advance of subject choices selection. Details to follow.

We were delighted to welcome Garda Sergeant Tom O'Donoghue and Garda Jon Brien to the school in recent days. Every class in the school received a visit and informative discussions were had about cyber bullying, Coco's Law, the misuse of drugs and alcohol, along with encouraging our students to be a positive influence in their local community. We are very grateful to both gentlemen for being so generous with their time and knowledge. There is no doubt that our young people have an important role to play in maintaining Kilcullen as a safe and welcoming community and having these conversations with the local Gardaí are invaluable.

Eight students represented CPC at the Le Chéile Knock Student Symposium. 29 Le Chéile schools, comprising of 300 students, attended.

Throughout the day, students from CPC, spent the day with students from the other Le Chéile schools sharing ideas and forming new friendships.

The day started with a reflection led by Claire Kilroy (Ethos Leadership Officer, Le Chéile Schools Trust CLG), followed by some icebreakers.

In their groups, the students then attended three different 40 minute engaging workshops.

After lunch, everyone attended mass in the Parish Church on site. We all returned to St. John’s Hall for some excellent presentations from two different schools about their Ember Teams and a concluding reflection, again led by Claire Kilroy.

Thank you to Le Chéile for the invitation to attend. We look forward to next year already.
