Dear Principal, Dear Irish Teacher
My name is Betty Maguire and I am the Irish Language Officer for Kildare County Council.
I am just getting in touch with your school to make you aware of a scholarship which is available for 5th year students to attend a course in the Gaeltacht this year.
Kildare County Council through its Coiste Gaeilge is offering scholarships to attend Irish College in the summer of 2024. There will be five scholarships offered in total, one per Municipal district. The scholarships are for Gael Linn (Coláiste Bhun an Inbhir) college located in North West Donegal, 50KM from Letterkenny
This scholarship is a great opportunity for students to learn and practice the Irish language in an immersive setting before commencing the Leaving Certificate.
Please find attached a letter detailing further information about the course and the scholarship scheme.
Thank you,
Kind Regards,
Betty
The TY Art class under the guidance of Ms Lesley Kelly has been producing some really beautiful stained glass style pieces. They are positioned in various parts of the school and are a lovely addition.
Guten Tag! The German Department has made a connection with a secondary school near Dusseldorf which will hopefully provide opportunity for the students to practise and improve their spoken and written German skills. As part of our Christmas celebrations we had a card exchange. We were delighted to receive beautiful cards and delicious German biscuits.
Congratulations to Sinead Pullen who won this week's weekly prize. Pictured is Ben (taking a break from cooking!) collecting the weekly prize.
The Jackpot for next week stands currently at €1225 and don't forget the free Thank You Giveaway national Draw included for all of our players next week.
Good luck to all!
Many thanks to those who registered interest in attending Saturday Study via the saturdaystudy@cpckilcullen.com email address. All emails there have been received.
There is sufficient interest to run the programme and it will get underway on Saturday 27th at 10am.
Many thanks to the Parents' Association for their generosity to make this happen.
A reminder that the parents association have organised a clothes collection to take place tomorrow Saturday, January 20th. You can drop your bags of unwanted clothes to the bike shelter at the top of the avenue between 10 - 4pm. Thank you
The Ember team attended an Ember Renewal Day in St Patrick’s College, D.C.U. on Thursday 18th January 2024. This day served as an opportunity for teams to share their achievements to date and to be provided with fresh ideas for the rest of the year ahead. It also afforded students the opportunity to renew friendships which were made during their Ember training in Ovoca Manor. The day concluded with a prayer service whereby each school presented a symbol to represent their journey and work to date as a faith leadership team within the school.
Our Ember team look forward to the many liturgical days to come, working with many year groups throughout the school and with the Religion department.
Our 6th year LCA Graphics and Construction students have designed and manufactured fantastic Educational Toys for children as part of their Task work in Leaving Cert Applied.
Each student put huge work into the design and manufacture of these toys to ensure they were safe, educational and also fun for children.
A variety of toys were made including a shape sorter, a children's tool box, a dominos set and many more.
Well done to our 6L students on completing this great work and to their teachers Mr Mann and Ms Quinto for their support and guidance.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope you are keeping well. I am writing to you with regard to the Mock Exams which will take place in the coming weeks (Junior Cycle 1st - 9th Feb, Leaving Certificate 29th Jan - 9th Feb, Leaving Certificate Applied 6th - 9th Feb).
The mock exams provide an important objective and independent assessment in each subject as the exam papers for the mocks are set and marked by teachers outside the school. A small number of teachers set and correct their own exams as it suits the subject better. This is factored into the cost.
This gives each student a very accurate idea of how well their study and revision is progressing. In this regard students establish clearly the areas in each subject where they need to focus. It helps teachers also to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching and learning of their subject.
Arising from the cost of buying the papers and paying for their correction, the cost is:
This needs to be paid by Monday 12th February 2024 at the latest please.
Please pay Mock Exam Fees through the shop link you receive through the school app. If for any reason you are unable to do this please contact the school office to arrange an alternative method. There is an option to pay in full or in two installments.
Unfortunately, while medical cards have covered the cost of State Examinations in the past, the same facility is not available for the mocks. The school can not cover the cost of mock exams so it is essential that payment is received in order to facilitate correction for your son/daughter.
Yours Sincerely
Joe Leonard
