To the entire CPC community, a note of thanks for your generosity towards our appeal to raise €500 for the local SVP to support families in our community through this particularly difficult time. When Ms Mills approached me with this idea a target of €500 was set and following a couple of appeals through the school app and through the Kilcullen Diary the amount raised now stands at a fantastic €1925. It would be simply amazing if we could break the €2000 milestone - if you can donate any amount please follow this link www.svp.ie/crossandpassion Thank you all so much. J Leonard

Dear parents/guardians/students, The Department of Education and Skills have released a statement on stakeholder engagement in relation to the State Examinations. There are no definitive conclusions to these discussions and I will keep you posted as I receive information. The statement can be read here: www.education.ie/en/Press-Events/Press-Releases/2020-press-releases/PR20-05-06a.html As you know from previous notifications, most book companies have made their books available for free online during this time. In addition I have received the following message from Folens: Over the last number of weeks we have had a number of requests to make student workbooks available to access on FolensOnline, as many students had left their workbooks behind in school before the closure. In response to this need we have created an eBook version of our most popular workbooks. These workbooks will be available during the Covid- 19 school closures, as a temporary measure, to help students with their school work at home. Students can register, using the steps below, to get access: Go to FolensOnline.ie and click register Select Teacher Fill in a username, email and password For Roll Number use the code: Sec20 The list of workbooks included are below: Chemistry Chemistry Live 2Ed Workbook French Bienvenue en France 2 (2018) Portfolio Book Tout Va Bien ! Good afternoon everybody, I hope this message finds you all safe and well. The beautiful weather is certainly a help to us all during these strange times and I hope all of our students are managing to combine a healthy mix of school work and relaxation. Below are some updates and links that may be of interest: Ms Carty recommends this video dealing with anxiety during this time A post by Karen Young - Hey Sigmund www.facebook.com/karenyoungheysigmund/posts/659774884588990/ there is further information on the site at www.heysigmund.com/anxiety-in-teens/?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=email_this&utm_source=email Thanks to Ms Fennell who brought this series of webinars from the Middletown Centre for Autism to my attention www.middletownautism.com/covid19/webinars-may-4-2020 Ms Lynch taught me about a clever feature on iPhones when using the Notes app - if you are scanning work to your teachers you can use the Notes app as a scanner. Open a new Note (must be in the On my iPhone folder if you have other folders set up), press the camera button, the option to scan document will pop up. Once the document is scanned, you can email it with less band width than a photo. On the same topic, Ms Twomey recommends Cam Scanner or Simple Scan apps (free) for effective ways of sending work to teachers. With end of year assessments beginning next week it is important that teachers can see work clearly, which is not always the case with a photograph of the work. I would like to thank all of the staff for the extraordinary lengths they are going to to ensure that teaching and learning is continuing for all students. To our parents and guardians, thank you for your role in supporting your children while also trying to juggle work and family life. There are still some instances where students have not fully engaged in Google Classrooms or with work set and we understand that there could be good reasons for this, but where possible we are seeking your support in keeping the students with us. There are also Google Classrooms for 1st, 2nd and 6th year Assemblies set up. Please check in regularly with your child's school email and Google Classroom for updates. Thank you also to all parents who are assisting us with updating email addresses on our records. This work continues as per my previous notification. Take good care everyone and stay safe J Leonard

Good afternoon everyone, I hope this message finds you well. Before school closure the admin team in CPC were working on updating parent/guardian email addresses. We would like to be able to send material by email from time to time in an effort to be more cost efficient and environmentally friendly. Over the next week test emails will be sent to one parent of each household according to the schedule below. If you do not receive the email please could you email admin@cpckilcullen.com with your son/daughter's name and class in the subject bar to say didn't receive an email. We will then add that email address to our system as the active email address you use. An email (and a text to parents to say it has been sent) will be sent to: 1st years on Tuesday 5th May 2nd years on Wednesday 6th 3rd years on Thursday 7th 4th years Friday 8th and 5th years on Monday 11th May. Thank you for assisting us in this matter.

New Irish film with local Kildare links (and CPC students!) to get online premiere on Friday

This Friday, an Irish film made in Co Kildare capturing the big hair and music of the 1980s will make a most unusual premier – on Facebook! To screen at 7pm on Friday, May 1, ‘Danny Boy’ was written and directed by Ferdia Mac Anna who secured the talents of Clelia Murphy (well-known actress from Fair City) and actor/comedian Paddy C Courtney, both of whom signed up for the low budget film – without even reading the script! Much more importantly, a number of CPC students were selected as extras in the movie and may well steal the show! Full details in the Leinster Leader can be found here: www.leinsterleader.ie/news/home/538659/new-irish-film-with-local-kildare-links-to-get-online-premiere-on-friday.html My thanks to Mr Dennehy for bringing it to my attention and Mrs S Rusk for the photos.
