Congratulations to Palakshi Rattan from 2nd year who was awarded a HIGHLY COMMENDED rosette for her BT Young Scientist Project. Palakshi’s project ‘An Analysis of the BREXIT Referendum by Age, Immigration and Area’ was entered in the Junior Individual category and received a lot of interest at the exhibition. Visitors to the stand included the British Ambassador, Mr Robin Barnett, who commented on Palakshi’s strong presentation skills. She was also visited by Mary Mitchell O'Connor, TD who discussed the project with Palakshi.
Dr Fergus Heffernan Talk

On Monday students enjoyed a visit from Dr Fergus Heffernan who addressed the issue of emotional well being in families. All years found the workshops entertaining. engaging and thought provoking. The Concert Hall was packed that evening for the parents talk, many of whom had been urged to attend by their daughters, and feedback has been very positive from all.

Best of luck to Palakshi Rattan (2nd Year) who is representing Sion Hill at the BTYSTE this year. Her project, 'An Analysis of the BREXIT referendum by Age, Immigration and Area',can be viewed in the Social and Behavioural Sciences at Stand 4119. The Exhibition runs until 5:30 on Saturday and is in the main exhibition hall of the RDS.

First year Science students used the theories they have learned to answer questions such as 'How could Santa have an invisible sleigh?" and "What could cause Rudolph to have a red nose?"
The Season for giving

4 Amber Religion class have worked with the young Vincent de Paul over the last number of weeks to put together 'care packages' for parents of sick children in Crumlin and premature babies in Holles Street. They thoroughly enjoyed working on this project and couldn't have done it without the generosity of local businesses. The students met with staff from Holles Street and Crumlin on Monday when they delivered 100 'care bags' to the hospitals and all would agree it was a very special experience.
3 Amber C.S.P.;E Action Project

As a part of their third year CSPE action project, 3 Amber visited Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. They were met by the Cathaoirleach (Cormac Devlin), who showed the class around the council chamber. There they learnt about the history of county hall and got an insight into how the council works. The students got an opportunity to sit in the council members seats and also hold a vote.
School Choir at the Ashbury Nursing Home

Well done to the members of the school choir who sang Christmas Carols for the residents of the Ashbury Nursing Home in Blackrock this week. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all involved.

e-twinning project: “European Reporters: new ideas for a new Europe”, Dominican College, Sion Hill, Dublin
This project focused on environmental issues, justice and equality. Students collaborated with international partners to produce bilingual webzines:

While raising awareness of global citizenship, working on the project also helped students prepare for Leaving Cert French oral exams and Higher Level French essays.
Chloe and Sorcha accepted the award on behalf of the fifty current Sixth Year and Fifth Year students of French who participated in this e-twinning project last year.
2 Diamond environmental awareness event

The students from 2 Diamond held an environmental awareness event in the concert hall on Friday the 27th of November. They sold cakes and invited a speaker from the Irish Wildlife Trust who spoke about endangered species in Ireland. They raised over €100 tonne donated to the Irish Wildlife Trust. Well done girls!
