ALIVE Coin Race

Sion Hill's annual 'Coin Race' fundraiser for communities in the Developing World was again a hugely successful and fun event. The 2030.88 euro raised will be contributed to Bothar to buy livestock, to the Sealdah school/orphanage in Kolkata and to Actionaid in support of their work with young girls, BIAG. Thank you to everyone who got involved.

Alive sent a congratulations card to Malala Yousafzai , the 17 year old Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 for campaigning on behalf of girls' education in the Swat Valley of Pakistan. She was awarded the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize this week along with India's Kailash Satyarthi, a campaigner to end child labour.

The Senior basketball team beat Loreto Stephens Green 22-13 today. Congratulations girls! Congratulations to the Senior and Cadette basketball teams who beat Loreto Beaufort 20-10 & 36-26 respectively.
Dominican Youth Day

This year Sion Hill sent the 4th and 5th year representatives from the Mind, Body and Soul committee and the student council to the Dominican Youth Forum 2014, at the Dominican Convent, in Cabra. The theme this year was "Inspiring Voices" and each student participated in workshops around this. The main workshop in the morning was centred around St. Dominic our main inspiration. We learned more about his life and the founding story of the order. We hope to bring what we learned about the Dominican ethos back to school life.
News Academy Dublin Conference

Students from 4th, 5th and 6th year participated in the News Academy Dublin Conference on Tuesday the 25th November. The journalism and media seminar was addressed by the Tanaiste, Joan Burton and a variety of high profile journalists and editors.
Poetry Aloud

Nour Ghantous, Hannah Mc Nicholas-Roche and Aisli Moran were semi-finalists in Poetry Aloud held in The National Library. They were part of the final 148 participants from an entry of 1778 students in this all Ireland competition. Well done girls!
