Travel Green It's Friday - TGIF This year in Scoil Chriost Ri our Green Schools committee is working hard to get our travel flag, to add to our collection of green flags. This theme revolves around students and staff travelling to school in an more environmentally friendly way. This coming Friday, the 27th of January, we are hosting our Action day. This is to kick off TGIF - Travel Green It's Friday, to promote green travel. Along with our teachers, Ms. Healy, Ms. Kennedy and Ms. Stack we are encouraging students and staff to walk, cycle, take the bus, carpool or park and stride (park up the car and walk the rest of the way) in order to get to school. There are many benefits of travelling green to school: It can be used as a way to get some exercise. walking or cycling increases the amount of oxygen our body takes in, which has an added bonus of giving us more energy and better focus in class. If you decide to walk in groups it gives an opportunity to catch up with friends before school starts. It will reduce traffic congestion, both entering and exiting the school. This means you are not sitting in the car for longer than you need to. It is environmentally friendly, and reduces carbon emissions as people travel to school. We hope that everyone will get on board and travel green to school this Friday!

A group of 26 inquisitive and enthusiastic 1st year students were involved in a science challenge recently. The students were tasked with building the tallest tower they possible could, capable of supporting a sliotar, using only straws and sellotape. The students brainstormed their ideas, coming up with unique and imaginative designs. The winners of the challenge, with a tower that was over 40cm tall were ‘The Christmas Baubles’ comprised of Sinead Buggy (1A), Rebeka Kovacova (1B) and Grace Scully (1E), much to the delight of Mr Scully who teaches all three. A special mention also goes to ‘The Jacket Potatoes’, Ella Mooney and Alison O’Kelly who came in second place. All of the students deserve recognition for their creativity which resulted in some amazing creations.
