On Wednesday 21st of September 2016, a busload of very enthusiastic (despite the early start) 5th and 6th year Agricultural science students left Our Lady's School at 7am to visit the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan in Tullamore armed with their wellies, cameras and booklets. The first visit was the to Irish Angus Producers Group to meet this years winning schools that had won this years new batch of Certified Angus Calves and where the 6th years Shauna Jager, Emily Browne, Eithne Murray & Tara Freehill and their teacher Ms Flannery were interviewed by the media about their calves and the progress that they made and the plan for the future. The students then made their way through the livestock and machinery arenas where they collected photos, information and brochures for their Leaving Certificate practical coursework. Once all the serious stuff was out of the way, the girls had some time to experience all the 'Ploughing' had to offer from Horse drawn ploughing, Tractor Football, Butter sculptures, Sheepdog and Horse trials, Cookery Demonstrations from loads of famous Irish chefs such as Rachel Allen & Edward Hayden, fashion shows, makeup & clothes stands stocking Mac Make Up, Hollister and O'Neill's hoodies etc, University & College stands, wedding dress couture, show bands and concerts, choirs and country music, Renotkils Pesturant where you could taste mealworms lime coriander or cricket chili peppers & the Pimp my pooch (which seemed to be super popular) which stocked county jerseys and costumes for pets of all sizes and shapes. A great time was had by all and plans are already in place to plan for next years trip.

This year's trip to Coláiste Acla gave the 6th Years an opportunity to spend time in the Achill gaeltacht. The girls braved the west of Ireland weather, to take part in multiple activities including surfing, bog snorkeling, wall climbing, céilí dancing, and much more. All activities were conducted through the medium of Irish, so that every student had an opportunity to immerse herself in the Irish language, as well as the Atlantic ocean! The instructors in Coláiste Acla were hugely impressed with the girls, who were a credit to Our Lady's. See gallery for more photographs.
