St. Macartan's College Students through to Poetry Aloud All Ireland Finals.

Poetry Aloud is an annual poetry speaking competition organised by the National Library of Ireland and is open to all post-primary students on the island of Ireland. This year the competition opened for virtual entries from schools. The competition, which has run since 2007 and has involved thousands of students in that time, has changed its structure for this year due to the challenges presented by Covid-19.
The first round this year consisted of a virtual competition in lieu of on-site regional heats. Participating teachers selected three students to represent their school from any of the three categories -Junior, Intermediate and Senior and submitted video recording of the students speaking their prescribed poem.
Two St. Macartan's College students are through to the All Ireland Finals this year. They are Alex McVicar in the junior section and Daniel Keelan in the intermediate section. Congratulations to both students and to Ms. Curran the Poetry Aloud coordinator at St. Macartan's College.@StMacartans #PoetryAloud

Message from Pascal Smyth. Education Support Officer at Monaghan Education Centre

To all parents
We, in Monaghan Education Centre, are keen to support your school community during this second period of school closures. As Education Support Officer (ESO), I have, over a period of time, developed our website which now contains an extensive bank of resources that will be of use to students and parents. It is envisaged that the Educational Support Services section will act as a ‘one-stop-shop’ where students, and their parents and guardians, might access a range of resources and advice. A direct link to the website is included here: metc.ie/
I also include here a link to a short, recorded webinar which provides a 20-minute overview where the viewer is taken on a tour of the resources available to Post-Primary school parents, students and teachers: tinyurl.com/y554ut9z
Resources included cover:
• each subject area at both Junior and Leaving Cert level
• a guide to online learning
• study skills
• well-being sections for students, parents and teachers
• SEN (special educational needs) supports
Kind regards,
Pascal Smyth.
