Microsoft DreamSpace Virtual Webinar.

Students from St. Macartan’s College got to participate this week in a Virtual DreamSpace experience. This was designed by the Microsoft education team, in conjunction with the Schools Digital Champions Programme. Students enjoyed a two hours long learning experience, which included a virtual tour of Microsoft, exploration of AI and STEM activities focused on 21st century skills and coding. The DreamSpace experience is extremely popular and since launching in 2018 it has engaged over 40,000 students in tailored STEAM experiences, opening their minds to a new way of learning and the possibility that technology holds for them in their future careers. #STEAM @StMacartans

The St. Macartan's College prefects' election for the next academic year took place this week. Candidates presented their respective election positions to their peers via a podcast and the elections took place online this morning, Friday, April 23rd. The following pictured with Student Leadership Coordinator Ms. McSkean, (from the front the row left to right) were deemed elected to represent the incoming sixth years on the Student Council and to serve the school community as school prefects with immediate effect - Jamie McElwain, Joe McElvaney, Oisín Murray, James McElwain, Colin Bracken, Shane Freeman, Mark McManus, and Luke Cawley. #StudentLeaders @StMacartans
Rang Laoire Earth Day Project.

First year group Rang Laoire prepared an area at the new school bus lay-by to make it suitable for planting wildflowers as part of their contribution to Earth Day 2021. They were assisted by their Science teacher Mr. West, school groundsman Michael Boyle, and school technician Jimmy Cosgrove. Advice on the appropriate seeding and planting of the site was provided by Monaghan Co. Council horticulturist Michael Carroll. Rang Laoire's project was to develop the site to the best advantage of pollinators. @MonaghanCoCo #EarthDay @StMacartans

Three teams of School Digital Champions from St. Macartan’s College, with students from 16 other schools from all over Ireland. participated in a Google Virtual Webinar, as a part of TechWeek, During the webinar, students were introduced to the Google way of life, to various jobs that are available at Google, to the internship programmes and to the various college courses that could possibly lead to a career in the tech industry. The students were also presented with a webinar regarding online safety, the importance of preserving your digital footprint, and the need for caution when using social media.
M-power project for TY next year

We are pleased to announce the M-power project will be offered to the current 3rd years in the TY programme before it unfortunately finishes. Students must be willing to attend over the summer months for the summer camp and trips parts of the programme. A form has been sent to each student to express their interest in this wonderful programme.

All 3rd year students have been given a presentation on the Leaving Certificate Applied programme. That presentation has been sent to their email for them to show to their parents. Our 7 pYe trained peer educators are now delivering their 4 week programme discussing alcohol, drugs and cigarettes to our current first years. It is a very stimulating and informative presentation so far!

New St. Macartan's Bus Layby Opened.

A new bus layby opened this week at St. Macartan’s. Constructed by Fox Contracts as part of the Blackwater Bridge project, it was built with support and funding from Monaghan Co. Council, the N.R.A., Clogher Diocese, and the Cairde Mhic Chairthinn Sem Friends Fund. This new facility will add to student safety at the school and offers a significant number of new parking spaces for parents and the additional busses attending the school each day. Many thanks to parents and our bus drivers from Rice Coaches, Bus Eireann, Call a Car Monaghan, McEntee Coach and Bus, Leonard’s Coaches, Conlon Travel and Fitzpatrick Coaches for your help implementing our new parking and safety measures this week. @RiceCoaches @BusEireann @MonaghanCoCo @ClogherDiocese. #SlánSanSem
