STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)Career Fair

56 Transition year girls opted to attend the 'I Wish' STEM Careers Fair in the RDS yesterday Feb 3rd 2020. It was a most interesting day with presentations from many women working in STEM Careers - Engineers, IT specialists, HR Managers, Mathematicians and  Scientists who had arrived at their careers via a variety of pathways. Some of these women did science degrees, others did computing or business degrees, some hated maths in school, some loved science, others liked coding etc.  Following presentations and a forum discussion students had the opportunity to visit stands showcasing STEM careers. Employees of Accenture, Johnson and Johnson, Aer Lingus, Google, Norton, Deloitte - to name but a few,  were on hand to answer student questions about careers in their companies. Much food for thought and great encouragement for girls to consider STEM careers.

Please view the document attached for the arrangements for our Third Year students during their mock examinations. Students must go to option classes when their tutor group are scheduled for them - all remaining students are scheduled for study at these times. Teachers may arrange to take additional students to their classroom at these or other times that students are not sitting an examination - this is at the discretion of individual teachers - it is dependent on space in the rooms, supervision rota etc. This is the first time that students have the facility to continue their practical work during mock examinations - they should make full use of this opportunity. Additional time will not be taken from other subjects later in the year.
