Junior Cycle Update
Created : 29 Apr 2020, 4:18 PM
Archived : 29 Jun 2020, 12:00 AM
In light of today's press release regarding the Junior Cycle, the Minister for Education has now issued a set of Guidelines on Assessment and Reporting for schools. All assessment for Junior Cycle will now be concluded by the end of May.
'In 2020, the Junior Cycle learning achievement of students will be recognised through a specific form of certification designed to meet the current, exceptional circumstances presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
For each student, certification will involve two elements:
• A State Certificate of completion of Junior Cycle from the Department of Education and Skills. Students should receive a State Certification that they have completed three years of Junior Cycle education in a number of subjects. This certification will be provided by the Department of Education and Skills.
• A School Report setting out the learning achievements of students in Junior Cycle. Students should receive a written report on the broad range of learning that they have achieved in each subject at the end of Junior Cycle. This assessment of their learning will be provided by their teachers. Schools will have autonomy in how this assessment is to be arrived at and the format in which the report is provided.'
Further information regarding Junior Cycle assessment and reporting will be communicated via the app and through the various subjects on Google Classroom over the coming days.

Dear students and families,
Hope this message finds you well.
At a time of challenge, frustration and uncertainty it’s nice to bring you a little bit of positive news. Next Tuesday we are submitting for planning to Kildare County Council for our All Weather Facility.
This we believe will complete the missing cog in the wheel of excellence that we want to provide for our students in Naas CBS.
A huge thank you to our Parents Council for their commitment, drive and ingenuity in helping to bring us to this stage. We will keep you informed as further developments take place.
Many thanks and take care,
Ben Travers

National Drop Everything and Read Challenge 2020
Given that so many of us are now spending so much more time in our homes, now is an excellent time to to take some time to enjoy reading for pleasure. We are therefore inviting the entire nation to take time out and to ‘Drop Everything and Read’ for 20 minutes at 12 noon on Friday April 24th 2020.
The simple idea is to promote the importance of literacy and to spread the joy of reading for pleasure by having as many people as possible read at the same time on the same day. Over 200,000 registered to participate last year and our aim is to have an even higher participation figure this year.
