Yesterday, the 15th September 2016, both 5th year art classes and Ms. Maguire's 6th year art class went on a gallery trip to Belfast. The MAC gallery in Belfast is a recent addition to the lively Northern Ireland art scene and is currently hosting a retrospective of the acclaimed British artist David Hockney's work. I do, I draw looks at Hockney's innovative approach to drawing throughout his long career. At the MAC, the girls were split into two groups and were brought on a tour of the building and the Hockney exhibition. The tour guides were really engaging and informative and really knowledgeable about Hockney and his work. We all had a quick lunch in the city and in the afternoon, we visited the Fenderesky Gallery, a commercial gallery also in the Cathedral quarter of Belfast.

On Wednesday 14th September 2016, all of the 6th year students attended the Higher Options Career Exhibition at the RDS with the Guidance Counsellors, Ms Porter and Ms Bannan. Higher Options is one of Ireland’s biggest student events and has become an annual fixture on the Education calendar. Over 170 colleges, universities and institutes of further education take part and thousands of students from all over the country attend over the three days of the event. Students had the opportunity to meet and speak directly with representatives from all the main Irish universities and colleges, as well as many from the UK, Europe and further afield. Students were also able to take part in Talks and Lecture sessions on topics ranging from the CAO & UCAS application processes to studying in Europe. Sessions also take place about a wide variety of careers ranging from Engineering, Nursing, Agriculture, Science and Design. The Talks and Lectures sessions are given by speakers from a number of organisations and institutions, offering insight, advice and information about the applications processes to third-level education in Ireland, the UK and Europe. The sun shone and we were lucky to avoid the bus strike by attending on Wednesday. A great day was had by all!
