Government announcement to close schools from 6pm today until 29th March

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced that schools are to close in response to the Covid-19 pandemic from 6pm today. www.education.ie/en/Press-Events/Press-Releases/2020-press-releases/12-march-2020-statement-from-the-department-of-education-and-skills.html In addition, indoor gatherings of more than 100 people will not be permitted. It is with deep regret, that tonight's performance of All Shook Up has to be cancelled. I know this will cause great disappointment to cast, crew and the audience but my priority throughout this crisis has been to follow the expert advice to protect the safety of people. All school related activities will be cancelled during this period, including today's after school study, homework club, Saturday study, work experience, sports fixtures etc. As a school we have been preparing for a possible closure and students will be reminded to bring home books and study material so that they can continue to work during this period. Parents may be able to assist in the transport of books etc. but the school will be closed from 6pm today, as per the instructions. I will keep you informed as I receive updates. Update for parents and students regarding latest advice on Covid-19

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students, the Department of Education issued an updated statement yesterday evening which can be found here: www.education.ie/en/Press-Events/Press-Releases/2020-press-releases/covid-19-statement-10mar20.html As it says in that statement, there is no advice to close schools at this point. However, given the developing situation I am asking that parents and students plan for a possible school closure in the future in the following ways: In cases where schools may need to close due to the Covid-19 infection, some element of remote teaching and learning could be considered. All students have an official school email account and access to G-Suite for Education. Now is the time to check that passwords etc are known. Many teachers already use this technology as part of their daily work and so students are most likely familiar with how it works. I have asked teachers to prepare a plan of work for students in the event of a closure. It is, therefore, important that parents and students have a plan in place to bring home the required study materials. For example, if an announcement was made overnight or at a weekend for example, it would not be possible for students to access lockers etc. I am attaching, for your information, a letter sent to all Principals yesterday evening by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan. As it states in this letter, all responses to Covid-19 should be proportionate, necessary and based on specific public health advice I would like to thank you for your continued support during what I understand is an anxious time for everybody. We were delighted to welcome Maria Walsh MEP to speak with our students today. Many interesting topics such as taxation, Brexit and of course the Corona virus were discussed. We were also delighted to welcome our local TD Martin Heydon and past pupil to join the discussion.
