3rd Year Student Awards

As a school we place great importance on celebrating the many ways our students achieve success. In the past week awards were given to students who have gone above and beyond in the areas of academic excellence, application to study and co-operation. Teachers nominated students in each category and certificates were awarded last week. It was wonderful to hear teachers say how difficult it was to only nominate only a few 3rd years as they find them to be a great group year group to work with. Thanks has to go to each and every 3rd Year student for getting through this difficult term and making a positive contribution to life here in CPC. Congratulations to the students pictured below, your efforts have not gone unnoticed and we are delighted to celebrate your success in this small way.

HSE Reminders - important

The HSE has asked me to: 1. Remind all parents and staff to keep an eye on their health and to check for symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms of Covid-19 can include some or all of the following - fever (temperature of 38◦C or higher), cough, shortness of breath, any loss or change to the senses of smell or taste, headache, sore throat, or a runny nose. If any pupil or member of staff develops these symptoms they must self-isolate and contact their GP for advice regarding a COVID-19 test. 2. Even with high population uptake of COVID-19 vaccination, it is important that you continue to support the pupils and staff of your school community during the COVID-19 pandemic in the effective manner you have been. It is important to reinforce to your school community that all public health guidelines still need to be followed to protect the health of pupils and staff, these include: * Wearing face coverings * Cleaning hands regularly * Maintaining physical distance from others * Being mindful of the ventilation of classrooms by opening windows and doors as appropriate 3. Encourage all those who are eligible for vaccination within your school community to access appropriate information around this (available at www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/) For those wishing to arrange vaccination, they can do so at either: a. Register using the HSE Vaccine portal (vaccine.hse.ie/#register) a. OR phone the HSE at 1800 700 700 What is the advice for close contacts who are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19? Close contacts who are fully vaccinated and have no symptoms are not required to restrict their movements. Close contacts will receive a text message with a link to a website where they provide their relevant details. When this has been done they will receive a text message with information about their antigen tests. Instructions of when and how to undertake the antigen tests are provided to those close contacts. If a fully vaccinated close contact has symptoms then they will be advised to self-isolate and booked for PCR testing. When is a person considered to be fully-vaccinated? a. 7 days after receipt of the second Pfizer-BioNTech dose (two dose vaccination course) b.15 days after receipt of the second AstraZeneca dose (two dose vaccination course) c. 14 days after receipt of the second Moderna dose (two dose vaccination course) d. 14 days after receipt of the first Johnson & Johnson vaccine (one dose vaccination course) What is the advice for close contacts who are not fully-vaccinated against COVID-19? · Close contacts who are not fully-vaccinated will need to go for two PCR tests for COVID-19, one as soon as possible and one on Day 10 after their last exposure to the COVID-19 case. · They will need to restrict their movements (stay at home) until the Day 10 test has been done. This includes not attending work or school. · If the Day 10 test result is “not detected” or negative, the pupil or staff member can return to school provided they do not have symptoms of COVID-19. What about the families of those who are close contacts? Other people who live at home with the close contact do not need to restrict their movements, provided the close contact has no Covid symptoms. This means they can continue to attend school. If the close contact tests positive for COVID-19, the household will then need to restrict their movements. What if a close contact declines the COVID-19 test? Testing is not mandatory. But if a close contact does not have a Day 10 test done, this means they need to continue to restrict their movements for 14 days after their last contact with the person with COVID-19. More information Up to date information and advice on COVID-19 is available on hse.ie. We thank you for your help and support as we continue to live with COVID-19. Best wishes, The HSE COVID-19 Health Protection Schools Response (Part of HSE’s National COVID-19 Contact Management Programme)

Have you gotten your 2022 calendar yet? If not, please consider purchasing the CPC calendar which showcases original art work from students across the school community. The calendar was a co-project of our Student Council and Parents Association and we are very proud of what they have achieved together. The calendar costs €15 or get 2 for €20 meaning you can keep one for yourself and make one a gift to someone this Christmas. The calendar can be purchased here in the school or locally from Woodbine Books and Little Brew Cafe. Thank you for your support.
Senior Boys GAA Championship - CPC Kilcullen vs. Tullow CS. Match Report

Match Report written by Ross Brannock of TY GAA Future Leaders. It was a horrible day for football. The day after storm Barra caused havoc around the country. It was a cold, wet and windy December morning on a very soft pitch in Kilcullen. This meant there was very little hope of seeing any fancy flowing football for this Senior Football Championship Match. However, only one team could get through the group and neither CPC nor Tullow CS were prepared to back down from playing the fixture. Only one of them was going to progress through the group stages to the South Leinster Quarter Finals. It was winner goes through, losers are out. CPC started much the brighter, they seemed up for the occasion. Their midfield of Conn Kileen and Lorcan Murphy won the throw up and immediately CPC got the first score of the game through full forward Cormac Barker. Within minutes they pushed on and scored a goal with a left footed strike from wing forward Sean O'Toole. The first 15 minutes continued in this vein and CPC went into the first water break dominating with a comfortable lead. The water break was the break in momentum that Tullow needed and they used this to great effect by coming out afterwards with a lot more composure. They scored a very well worked point from the first play post water break. CPC struggled to get the ball out of their own half for the next 15 minutes and if it wasn’t for 2 fine saves from goalkeeper Oisin Barker, Tullow would have gone in at half time in the lead. The sides did go in for the halftime break all square on a scoreline of 1-05 to 0-08. A scoreline CPC would have been raging at after their first 15 minutes. The second half began with CPC winning the throw up again. The half time team-talk from Mr. Mann and student manager Sean Furlong obviously refocused CPC. After a few minutes of piling on pressure, Tullow caved and conceded a second goal to CPC with Lorcan Murphy the finisher. The rest of the quarter was very much to and fro with plenty of turnovers in the opposition's half but both teams managed to tack on another score. The score at the second half water break was 2-07 to 0-09. With the pitch now getting slippier, points were getting harder and it was clear that both teams were going to go for the juggler. Tullow did just that at the start of the 4th quarter with a very well worked goal. They were back into it, just a point down. CPC responded quickly though with a goal of their own from full forward Cormac Barker who finished the match top scorer on 1-05, all from play. This seemed to kill Tullow which allowed room for Jamie Duggan and Kyle Corcoran to tack on points to close the game out. The game finished 3-09 to 1-10 for a hard earned CPC win. It was a very enjoyable match given the conditions and it puts CPC through to the Quarter Final of South Leinster were they will face Ardscoil Rath Iomghain. Well done to the whole panel. CPC abu.
