5B and 5C along with their teachers, Ms Ingrid Wall and Ms. Glenda Groome thank everyone who came to our Intergenerational Coffee Morning as part of our Catholic Schools Week Activities. It was a lovely opportunity to develop relationships within our community. We had lots of interesting conversations such as about travel and advice the older person would give to their 17 years old self. Thank you to everyone who provided lovely music, baked, served tea and coffee.

Catholic Schools Week

Today marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme, Catholic Schools: Communities of Service, focuses on the service that we give to one another by caring for each other in our home, our school and our parish. We look to Jesus for examples of how we can serve one another with love and respect, sharing our gifts and talents generously with each other. We celebrate each other and our many differences. We are each precious and unique before God; there never has been nor will there ever be anyone completely like any one of us.

Today, Monday, we are asked to think about friendship. Friendship is one of life’s gifts and a grace from God. Through our friends, the Lord refines us and leads us to maturity. Faithful friends, who stand at our side in times of difficulty, are also a reflection of the Lord’s love, his gentle and consoling presence in our lives. The experience of friendship teaches us to be open, understanding and caring towards others, to come out of our own comfortable isolation and to share our lives with others. For this reason, ‘there is nothing so precious as a faithful friend’

Prayer

Dear God,

I bring before you my friends.

Protect them from all evil and guide them safely on their journey.

Help us to discern what unites us and what divides us,

What sustains and oppresses us.

Enlighten our sight, strengthen our hearts, bless our friendships,

Guide our steps and let us remain in your love.

Amen.

DNA Modelling in Biology Subject Sampling

The Biology Subject Sampling class enjoyed DNA model building with Dr Higgins. Building the models can help students visualise the helical structure of DNA, as well as the base-pairing rules that govern the complementary base pairing between the two strands. DNA models are also useful for studying the function of DNA in processes such as DNA replication, transcription, and translation. It is a wonderful introduction to some of the work students can expect to complete during Leaving Certificate Biology.
