Parent Teacher meetings

Dear parents/guardians,
as you are aware parent teacher meetings have taken place online while Covid restrictions were in place. There is no doubt that this model had some advantages but also was less than perfect with some disadvantages. Last year we surveyed staff and parents about the experience and it raised a number of very useful points which help in planning either an online or in-person meeting.
The Department of Education has issued instructions to schools stating that "“there is no longer a requirement to restrict visitors to schools and schools should revert to the normal arrangements for visitors. In this context parent teacher meetings should resume."
We are mindful of the fact that a short face to face conversation can be extremely useful between parent, teacher and student, especially in examination years. We are also mindful of the fact that due to restrictions, many of our parents have not had the opportunity to be in our school building or ever meet any of our staff. With this in mind, and the importance of "community" over "convenience", our upcoming 3rd and 6th year parent teacher meetings will be in-person.
We are working on making that experience as beneficial for all as possible. To do this we need your cooperation on a few key points:
* Please keep discussions with each teacher short - if a longer discussion is needed an appointment should be made for another time.
* If there is a long queue to meet a teacher, consider seeing another teacher and coming back later.
* Please be mindful that the meeting ends at 6.45pm - this means that teachers should be finished meeting parents at this time. Please do not join a queue that will not allow this to happen.
* For 3rd, 5th and 6th year students remember that your son/daughter is invited to attend with you. Students should remain with you at all times.
The parent teacher meeting is just one moment where parents can engage with teachers - teachers remain available via email, phone or appointment to discuss progress or issues as they arise.
We look forward to welcoming parents on 13th October for the 3rd year PT meeting and then on 25th October for the 6th year PT meeting.
Details for all other years and the format will follow closer to the time.
Kind regards
J Leonard
