Dear parents/guardians,
1st year students received their subject options this morning.
You will appreciate that with 144 students and 7 subjects, it is a logistical challenge to try to accommodate the preferences of the students. Invariably some subjects will be oversubscribed and we are limited by the class capacity numbers as well as physical and human resources.
We have worked hard to try to get the best outcome for all students. I am delighted to say that every student has been given their top choice.
Most students will be delighted with the outcome but there could be some who would like to be added to a waiting list should a place become available in a particular subject. If this is the case please send me an email to joeleonard@cpckilcullen.com and I will contact you if a change becomes possible.
I wish all of our students continued success in their studies.
Kind regards
J Leonard
Students really enjoyed our Barista Training with the Dublin Barista School. The tutors Nina, Karl and Adam explained how the machines work and spoke about the job opportunities available to baristas world wide. It was a very valuable (and delicious!) experience.
We took part in Think Languages 2023, a nationwide initiative to encourage language learning in schools. Our Transition Year MFL students did a Polish Dance workshop, competed in a nationwide online quiz & did other various workshops in their language classes, including a Chinese Art workshop. Congratulations to Matthew O’Gorman and to Harry Coogan who won one of the quizzes. Many thanks to Ms Rowan and to Ms Quinto for organising many of the activities.
Our TY students really enjoyed the performance from solo artist Bailey today.
The message shared with our students encouraged them to make good choices and to be mindful of peer pressure.
There was a long queue for autographs and photographs after the performance.
Thank you to Bailey and his team for such an entertaining performance.
All year groups enjoyed a live performance from solo artist Bailey today which included a talk on Mental Health, Drug Education, Peer Pressure.
Well done to TY Prefects Luke Costello and Rhys Byrne who had the idea to do something for Men's Mental Health Month in November and were involved in organising Bailey to visit all classes today.
Overall it seems to have been a very positive experience for all year groups.
Our Buddy Club continues to work very well with the TY prefects visiting our AS classroom every Tuesday for fun and games.
Well done to all involved.
Our 5th and 6th year Leaving Cert Applied classes enjoyed a fun day out of school at Kylemore Karting.
Students competed against each order for a place on the final podium.
Well done to Enda Byrne who won the first place trophy.
Great driving skills demonstarted by all students!
We were delghted to welcome two volunteers from the homeless charity P.A.T.H. on Monday to speak with our 6th year Leaving Cert Applied class about the work they do.
P.A.T.H. provides food and other essentials to those who are homeless in Dublin City.
We were also able to present P.A.T.H. with the large collection of selection boxes donated by our students and staff.
Thank you to all who generously donated to this collection.
James Meehan, Lilly McQuarrie and Katie O'Donnell, members of the Ember team, along with one of their classmates introduced the season of Advent to all first year groups.
In preparation for the 1st of December, each 1st year student was given a copy of the advent wreath to colour in, researching the colour of each candle and what they represent.
They were also given an advent calendar to create their own countdown to Christmas through acts of kindness. The Ember team gave them a suggested list of acts of kindness. Each day will reveal a good deed to complete.
Best of luck to all first years completing this! Students in other years can also try to complete acts of kindness throughout the month of December.
