Collection of books - today 4pm to 4.30pm only. Please read instructions carefully.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,
I have had a small number of queries regarding collection of books from lockers. As you know, the Taoiseach has instructed that schools be closed and staff are only on site as necessary. However, I am keen that students have their books so that they can keep up with study while this period of closure continues. I have arranged for the following:
1. School will be open from 4pm until 4.30pm today, March 18th, for the sole purpose of collection of books.
2. Students are instructed to come individually to school. Any groups of students who attend will not be allowed access.
3. There should be no congregating, simply come in, go directly to get books and leave again.
4. The only door that will be open is the main door near reception at the Assembly Hall end of the school. There will be no other access point.
Thank you

Good morning everybody,
I hope this message finds you all well.
No doubt you will have heard Taoiseach Leo Varadkar address the nation last night. In his address he spoke directly to young people, acknowledging that you might be bored, probably a bit fed up. He knows that you want to see your friends and that you might even be wishing that you were back at school. You're going to have to wait a while longer for that, the Taoiseach said.
In the meantime, the Taoiseach also urged you to keep up with your school work, help your parents, call your grandparents and like everyone else, come together as a nation by staying apart from each other.
Anecdotally, there are stories of groups of teenagers (and adults) still gathering and not practising social distancing. As many have said before, this is an insult to the frontline workers who are daily putting themselves at risk to work for the good of others, and also to the elderly and vulnerable in our society. I am echoing the appeal of the Taoiseach that each student adheres to this advice, no matter how inconvenient or difficult it may be. I am asking parents to ensure that they and their children stick strictly to this advice. As a parent myself, I know how difficult this is. But lives are at risk.
The teachers at Cross and Passion College had been preparing for the possibility of a school closure in the days prior to the government announcement. Students too had been encouraged to prepare by ensuring they had log in details for their school email address and access to Google Classroom, and bringing books home over the course of a few days. As you know the school would have been closed for the holiday weekend and so, in many ways, today marks the start of the extended period where classes can not take place. Students might consider following their school timetable in terms of the work they do. Your books and notes are the greatest resource you have. There will be work set by many of your teachers through Google classroom and you should try to keep up with this work as best you can. If anyone has difficulty accessing their school account please email schoolclosure2020@gmail.com only with details of your issue.
There are a number of online resources that are available to students to use, many of which you will already be familiar with. I will forward details of some these in the coming days, but as I said, your books are your most important resource right now.
I know that our 3rd and 6th year students will be keen to know what arrangements will be made by the State Examinations Commission for practical and oral exams that were scheduled to begin as early as next week. It is likely that some guidance will be provided very soon in this regard. Remember, that every student in the country is in the same position. Continue to prepare as best you can and do not worry unduly about what is beyond your control. Any information I receive will be communicated to you as soon as possible.
I want to finish for now by sending a special message of gratitude to the frontline workers, many of whom are family members of our school community. We will be back in Cross and Passion College and it will be in no small part because of your efforts. Thank you.

Government announcement to close schools from 6pm today until 29th March

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced that schools are to close in response to the Covid-19 pandemic from 6pm today.
www.education.ie/en/Press-Events/Press-Releases/2020-press-releases/12-march-2020-statement-from-the-department-of-education-and-skills.html
In addition, indoor gatherings of more than 100 people will not be permitted.
It is with deep regret, that tonight's performance of All Shook Up has to be cancelled. I know this will cause great disappointment to cast, crew and the audience but my priority throughout this crisis has been to follow the expert advice to protect the safety of people.
All school related activities will be cancelled during this period, including today's after school study, homework club, Saturday study, work experience, sports fixtures etc.
As a school we have been preparing for a possible closure and students will be reminded to bring home books and study material so that they can continue to work during this period. Parents may be able to assist in the transport of books etc. but the school will be closed from 6pm today, as per the instructions.
I will keep you informed as I receive updates. It is my sincere wish that every student and you their families remain safe in the coming weeks.

Update for parents and students regarding latest advice on Covid-19
Created : 11 Mar 2020, 10:52 AM

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,
the Department of Education issued an updated statement yesterday evening which can be found here:
www.education.ie/en/Press-Events/Press-Releases/2020-press-releases/covid-19-statement-10mar20.html
As it says in that statement, there is no advice to close schools at this point. However, given the developing situation I am asking that parents and students plan for a possible school closure in the future in the following ways:
In cases where schools may need to close due to the Covid-19 infection, some element of remote teaching and learning could be considered. All students have an official school email account and access to G-Suite for Education. Now is the time to check that passwords etc are known. Many teachers already use this technology as part of their daily work and so students are most likely familiar with how it works.
I have asked teachers to prepare a plan of work for students in the event of a closure. It is, therefore, important that parents and students have a plan in place to bring home the required study materials. For example, if an announcement was made overnight or at a weekend for example, it would not be possible for students to access lockers etc.
I am attaching, for your information, a letter sent to all Principals yesterday evening by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan. As it states in this letter, all responses to Covid-19 should be proportionate, necessary and based on specific public health advice
I would like to thank you for your continued support during what I understand is an anxious time for everybody. I will, of course, continue to communicate with you when there are updates but I also urge you to follow the most up to date advice on:
