Tuesday May 15th at 7:30pm in the college library - The life and legacy of Edward J. Flanagan, by Thomas Lynch, historian and director of community programmes at Boystown, Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
Fr Flanagan was born in Leabeg, Ballymoe, Co. Roscommon in 1886 and was a student at the College of the Immaculate Conception from 1901 to 1904.
Mr Lynch will introduce those gathered to the life story of the college’s famous past student from his early life in Ireland and his journey to America, to his formation as a priest and his work with the homeless which eventually led him to found the now world-famous Boystown movement.
All are welcome.

Darkness Into Light 2018

This year Summerhill College is encouraging students, staff and parents to walk together as part of Darkness Into Light in the early hours of May 12th 2018. Along with 180,000 participants in more than 180 venues worldwide, you will be raising awareness and funds for Pieta House’s movement to create a world free of suicide, self-harm and stigma. The walk starts at 4.15am on May 12th from the Knocknarea Arena at Sligo IT.

When you register with us you can get your t-shirt delivered to the school for you to collect. T-shirt collection on the morning is no longer available so this will ensure that you have your t-shirt before the event. Please register by May 4th to receive your t-shirt in time for the walk.

Drug & Alcohol Awareness Workshops

Christina Mc Eleney, Coordinator of the NW region alcohol and other drugs training with the HSE, is coming to Summerhill College to carry out workshops with 2nd year classes about drugs and alcohol as part of their SPHE syllabus on Wednesday May 2nd. Christina will also put on a workshop for parents Wednesday May 2nd at 7.30pm in the College library. This promises to be a really informative and interactive workshop with Christina who is an educational specialist in the field of alcohol and other drugs and has lectured in numerous third level institutions working in partnership with the North West regional drug and alcohol task force. All parents, particularly the parents of the 2nd year class groups carrying out the student workshops, are welcome to attend the evening workshop.

Congratulations to the winners of the Growth Mindset Photography Competition. The overall winner of the top prize of a €100 voucher was Robert Gaynor, 5th year. The winners of the €20 vouchers for the best entry from each year group were: 1st Year - Finnian Howard, 2nd Year - Simon Fitzpatrick, 3rd Year - Brandon Keane, TY - Saul Molloy and 5th Year - Craig NcLoughlin. Well done also to Cillian Feehily, James Parsons and Ciaran Kennedy who received runner up Easter eggs for their entries.

The SUSI Student Grant Application System is open, We would encourage all students, to make their application as soon as possible . We advise students to visit the website www.susi.ie and use the Eligibility Reckoner before making their application. This will give students an indication as to their eligibility for student grant funding. There are also a number of self-help tools available on the website, including videos and detailed guidance notes for making an application.

Some of the boys from St. Kevin's & St. Killian's that have collected €330 for the oesophageal cancer research fund through selling lollipops. They've done great work and really worked on their communication skills and confidence!
