The week of March 11th-15th is Green Schools Week and we have lots planned! With this year’s theme 'Sustainable travel' in mind as well as the overall Green School ethos of reducing waste and water use, we are running the following events throughout the week. A battery collection at lunchtime Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in G03. Drop off your used batteries and have you name entered into a raffle! Our Green Schools Committee will head out to do a ‘Spring Clean’ Thursday period 3 and 4 at the Strand in Lismore. Which class will have the highest amount of re-usable water bottles? We kindly ask Tutors to do a count on Thursday morning. The class with the most re-usable water bottles will win a sweet prize! We are taking part in ‘The Big Travel Challenge’, which runs next week. We are asking both staff and students to make an extra effort and choose a more sustainable method for their journey to school. If a whole week seems too much, we hope to really push “Walk on Wednesday!” Walk, scoot, cycle, local link or carpool! Make a pledge and take a picture! Pledges can be dropped into G03 and pictures can be sent to any member of the Green Schools Committee. Mrs O’ Sullivan together with the Green Schools Committee is launching a Swop Shop for previously used uniforms. A brilliant opportunity to pass on or pick up some uniform items, reducing expense and clothing waste. Uniforms can be dropped into A09 from 08:25 every morning this week and next week. Have a look at our new sign! A huge thank you to the Art and Engineering departments for their contribution. Thanks for all your support! GS Committee
BCS Green Schools is introducing a uniform swap shop to encourage the recycling of BCS uniforms, reduce environmental impact, and help parents save money. Here's how it operates:
Uniform items can be dropped off at the designated location (classroom A9) within the school. For each qualifying item, such as school jackets, fleeces, jumpers, ties, PE tops, and half zips, donors will receive one token. These tokens can then be used to obtain other uniform items available in the swap shop.
Please note that tokens are not provided for shirts, school pants, or school skirts. This policy is in place to ensure that only items likely to be in good condition for reuse are exchanged.
By implementing this system, BCS Green Schools aims to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and support cost-effective solutions for parents. It's a practical initiative that benefits both the community and the environment.
