Weekly Online Teaching Update

Hi All,
Thanks to everyone for all their hard work and patience in ensuring that we are getting the best possible benefits from Online Teaching & Learning at BCS.
It is obvious that we would all prefer to exist in a COVID free environment at the moment but we are where we are!
Maurice, Maria and myself have made contact with Leaving Certs and their parents/ guardians this week and were pleased that the feedback was extremely positive . It is important ‘to control the controllables’ at the moment and to focus on school work in each subject area as was reinforced today by 6th year head Miss Deirdre O’ Neill and her Tutors in our meeting wug the 6th years.
Unfortunately, social media is wrecking everybody’s head with speculation of all types on all issues which is only further contributing to the stress of all our students. Please focus on what we know to be the case at the moment and that is that class work and homework relating to state examinations has to be done .
We will be focusing on all other year groups next week starting with the Junior Certs on Monday .
This forum will be used to communicate information as we get it from the DES at the earliest possible opportunity but bear in mind ,in most instances, you will hear of any DES related announcements at the same time as we do .
Thanks to all Students, Staff and Parents/ Guardians for their continued support throughout this challenging time.
Ní neart go Cur le chéile,
Denis, Maurice & Maria

Afternoon everyone,
Hope you and your families are keeping well. As you may be aware several TY students participate in the GAA Future Leaders Programme. This programme enables students to engage in several modules throughout the year. As part of the Programme students are challenged to organize and run both on-field and off-field events for students.
This lockdown, both TY students and I have been coming up with a new initiative that will get both staff and students active and enjoy some time competing with their families.
Beginning next Monday 25th January, we will be hosting ‘BCS Fittest Family’.
This will be a 5-week competition for both staff and students. There will be one challenge a week, with the winner from each week progressing to the final to be crowned ‘BCS Fittest Family’. You will need 3 members of your family to enter, this can be your immediate family or extended family. To enter, email your families name eg ‘Buckley’ and participants to jackie.horgan@blackwatercs.com by Sunday 24th January at 9pm using the subject line BCS Fittest Family.
There will be a prize for the overall winner, best family efforts and most creative videos. Challenges will be posted on the school app each week along with an email sent to all staff and students.
If you have any ideas of challenges over the next few weeks, please send us a message, we would love to hear them.
Below I have attached a poster with the relevant information.
Please follow us on Instagram @bcs_gaafutureleaders20 to keep up to date with the challenges.
Thanks in advance and we hope to see several entries over the next few days!
The GAA Future Leaders team.

Interested in a career that tackles Climate Change?

Climate Change is a real planetary crisis for which we have an immediate responsibility. We know that many students are passionate about this but do not realise there are viable and rewarding careers in the area. In fact, now more than ever, we need talented graduates in planning and environmental management.
The BSc in Spatial Planning and Environmental Management (TU835) at TU Dublin Environment & Planning offers a real career path for students who are socially and environmentally aware, possibly good with geography, science or economics, but who may not necessarily be interested in a purely technical or scientific field of study.
The BSc is a combined, career-focused and specialised programme, with streaming options available in second year. We have some of Ireland's leading experts teaching on the programme. The programme has strong industry links, an international field trip and a work placement option.
Find out more about the BSc in Spatial Planning and Environmental Management in this short (12-minute) information video, which we welcome you to share with your students either in class or by email.
Students can also check out life at TU Dublin Environment & Planning on Facebook and Twitter, or visit our own website. We have an active Student Society, the Environmental Planning and Sustainability Society (@TUDublinEPS).
We can be contacted at environment@tudublin.ie and we'd be happy to talk to you or your students at any stage.
