St Declan's U18 hurlers crowned Dublin Champions

St Declan's College 4-13 Col Padraig Lucan 2-10 Congratulations to the U18 hurling team who were crowned Dublin Senior Colleges Champions this afternoon in Abbotstown. The team produced a magnificent display for the entire sixty minutes. The time and effort invested into training over the winter months proved to be the vital difference as St Declan's sprang into action from the throw-in. Playing with a strong breeze in the 1st half we dominated most of the play. However scores were hard to come by as Lucan CBS crowded their defence. Half-time score 2-06 to 0-04. We knew a big second half would be needed to hold off a strong Lucan attack and so it was. All over the pitch each player gave everything for the chance to bring the cup home to Declan's. Eventually we ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-13 to 2-10. This is the first time the school has won the B title and the honour fell to Humphrey Kelleher, former Dublin manager, to present the cup to a very worthy and understandably proud captain David Phelan. Our thanks to Ray O'Connor for all the training he has done with the team and to all who came out to support the lads on the day. The next hurdle is a Leinster Colleges Final against St Fergal's Rathdowny.

Well done to Joe Fogarty (1 Carolan), Daniel Khijinski (5 Éanna) and Seán Donoghue (3 Carolan) who competed in the Leinster schools Cross Country competition on Wednesday 21 February 2018. Joe came 8th in the Junior Boys competition which qualifies him for the All-Ireland Final. Seán and Daniel competed in the Inter Boys race. Daniel came 66th and Seán came 3rd . Seán will now proceed to the All-Ireland Final. He has had a busy couple of weeks with both club and school competitions. The weekend before last he ran in the Dublin Indoor track and field championships with Celtic running club which were held in the National indoor arena. It proved to be a very successful weekend for him winning both the 800m and 1500m under 17 races. We wish all the boys continued success in their racing endeavours. Congratulations also to their school coach Mr Burke and club coach Mary McKenna.
