Today we were delighted to have
Gearóid Balfry the
Munster Ladies Games Development Officer deliver a course to 25 of our TY students. The participants
of the LGFA TY course will receive their LGFA Go Games qualification which will allow them to referee up to U12 Non-Competitive blitz days/playing opportunities. They will also receive their Ready Steady Coach basic coaching certification where students will learn the principles of coaching and will also get the opportunity to apply these coaching principles in a practical setting. Upon completion of the day students are tasked with organising and running their own blitz day with either 1
st years or primary school/s in the area. This gives the students the opportunity to apply the coaching and refereeing skills that they have learned during the course day. Well done to the students that signed up for this course.

2023 Model Council of the European Union debate the theme is Energy. Two senior cycle students from 27 post primary schools debated a mock legislative proposal to set the EU renewable target to 45% by 2030. Participating schools were encouraged to research and adopt the 'real life' position of the assigned Member State. Eoghan O Brien and Éire Daly represented Malta. As part of the research for the debate we were in contact with Giovanni Buttigieg as Malta’s Ambassador to Ireland. He was delighted to help our students as his family attended St Augustine’s College in Malta a catholic college run by the Maltese Augustinian Province. We had a wonderful day in the beautiful historic building that is Dublin City Hall on Dame Street. The welcome address was provided by Barbara Nolan, Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland. Maria Walsh MEP also delivered a powerful speech encouraging all students to hold their MEPs accountable and to be active EU citizens. Martina Fitzgerald formerly a political correspondent with RTE chaired the debate. Excellent interventions were made by all 27 secondary schools representing the European Union. A competition certainly not easy to judge but everyone left inspired by the brilliant students. Congratulations to Scoil Muire agus Padraig from Mayo representing Poland on winning the competition. Well done to Eoghan and Éire for participating and proudly representing the Friary. Many thanks to Ms McGann for mentoring and travelling with the students.

‘Beatha teanga í a labhairt’
Bhí seachtain den chéad scoth againn i gColáiste Naomh Aibhaistín i mbliana le haghaidh Seachtain na Gaeilge. Bhí a lán imeachtaí éagsúile ar siúl i mbliana agus bhain na scoláirí taithneamh agus tairbhe as ar ndóigh. Ina measc bhí comórtais ípostaera, amhráin Gaelach, haka Gaelach, tráth na gceist, bingó trí Ghaeilge, comórtas bácála agus ceoil álainn ón ár ngrúpa ‘Hulaí Aibhaistín’. Bhí atmaisféar iontach cultúrtha le brath timpeall na scoile agus bhí sé ar fheabhas cultúr na hÉirinn a chéiliúradh freisin. Mar a deirtear, ‘tír gan teanga, tír gan anam’
