Covid-19 – Statement from the Department of Education and Skills and PDF from HSE

The Department of Education and Skills is liaising closely with the Department of Health on a continuing basis. Any decision to close schools will be made on public health advice. There is no such advice at this point. It is essential that any decisions regarding responses to Covid-19 are proportionate, necessary and based on specific public health advice. No other response is appropriate. Public health professionals will contact schools if there is any action to be taken. Schools should not take unilateral action. Schools, pre-schools and higher education settings have been provided with advice and guidance in respect of Covid-19. There is up to date guidance for schools and parents on education.ie/covid19. The Department is deeply conscious of the significance of decisions concerning school closures, and the potential impact any such decisions would have on parents, families and the wider community. This is an evolving situation and the health advice is being updated on a daily basis. The Department of Education and Skills and Department of Health will continue to work closely together on this issue.

Notice to parents of 1st years that the deadline for option choice has been extended to Wednesday 29th April. I have asked teachers to fill in an Option Subject Report on Vsware that may be of assistance towards the end of the week.

Classical Studies Award - Cara McCaul

Congratulations to Cara McCaul of Transition Year on being awarded the Classical Association of Ireland Medal for achieving the highest result in the country in the 2019 Junior Certificate Classical Studies Exam. The award ceremony took place in UCD on the 7th Feburary 2020. Cara is pictured with Professor Brian McGing, who is the President of the Classical Association of Ireland and her Classical Studies teacher, Mr Maguire.

Access to school for collection of books

Following recent survey of 3rd & 6th years, a significant number requested access to the school for collection of books. School will be open tomorrow, Friday 10.00 - 1.00. Guidelines regards social distancing will operate.

TY students had great fun today taking part in a workshop on cooperative teamwork skills facilitated by Develop Me. The groups were very competitive and the results were very close! Well done to all who participated. The facilitators were very complementary about your participation and feedback.
