Thanks to Ms. Cowper and Mr. Stephens for hosting past-pupil Peter McGarry as he promoted The Earth Prize Challenge to a selection of 2nd Year C.S.P.E. Students and the Greens Schools Committee.
"Peter McGarry returned to his former school, Naas CBS, to promote the Earth Prize challenge, an initiative of The Earth Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, which he founded.
The competition, which is open to 13-19 year-olds, rewards teams whose projects have potential to address the environmental problems facing societies across the globe. The winning team receives a €100,000 prize to be split between the pupils and their school, while the three runner-up teams receive €25,000.
Participants also have access to 40 mentors from top universities, and to video-based learning content covering key environmental topics and featuring nine young international environmental entrepreneurs."

Well done to the Senior Irish Debating Team who won the first round of the Comórtas Uí Phiarsaigh debating competition. The team consisting of 6th Year students, Fionn McCarthy, Austin Brennan, Sam Fahey and Matthew Davis argued in favour of the motion:
‘Ba cheart don Bhreatain fáil réidh leis an teaghlach ríoga’ (Britain should get rid of the royal family)
They put on an excellent display of Irish and impressed the judges with their high standards.

Naas CBS Beekeepers Extract 7kg of Local Honey

This year was a bumper year for honey production at our on-site beehive in Naas CBS. Over 7kg of natural, pure honey was extracted and this also included a fabulous batch of Ivy Honey.
Every year our beekeeping project with an on-site hive, gives many students the chance to learn about beekeeping and honey production. We were the first school in the country to develop such and initiative and are still one of only a few schools to participate in a beekeeping project and maintain a beehive on the school grounds. Every year we produce amazing honey, full of the flavour and goodness of a variety of local flora. Truly Naas Honey!
Our students Barney Hennessy, Conor Murphy, Senan Noone, Paul Desmond and Vova Batkov were busy over mid-term extracting and packaging the honey.

Senior Rugby Match v Balmoral College, Argentina

Our Senior Rugby Team had the amazing opportunity to play an international team; Balmoral College, Argentina.
The boys from the CBS started off great but became disjointed against the Argentina side. Roan Ahern kicked well and a try from Jack Byrne kept us in the game. The game finished with victory for Balmoral College with a score of 22:13.
Both sides were invited back to the school for some refreshments, where they got to know each other off the pitch. Balmoral presented Mr. Murphy and Mr. Warren with some gifts for hosting them on their European tour. Harry Dunne (captain) presented the winners with a Naas CBS flag and jersey to remember their time here.
We look forward to a rematch against them, on their return in the near future.
Mr. Warren
