UCD Entrance Scholars are first-year students recognised for their academic achievement who have achieved 560 points or more in their Leaving Certificate. These awards are part of a range of UCD initiatives put in place to recognise exceptional students when they join, as well as those who develop their talents while studying at UCD.

We hosted a 3 hour 'Architects in Schools' workshop in Naas CBS on Friday 23rd February. 'Architects in Schools' is an initiative supported by the Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF) where a practicing architect visits a school and provides students with an insight into the working life of an architect. The 'Architects in schools' programme is aimed at Transition Year and provides students with valuable exposure to how architects use the design process to problem solve and create innovative designs.
Our visiting architect this year was Belina Walsh of Kelliher Miller architects. Belina described and explained her roles and responsibilities as an architect in an architectural practice that mainly specialises in residential architecture. After introducing herself to the group Belina set students the task of designing a space for the students that would improve student life in the school. The chosen site for the proposals was the green space to the south of the school and beyond into the Lakelands open space adjacent to our playing fields and basketball courts.
Our students embraced the challenge of creating varied and interesting proposals ranging from landscaped parklands with a pavilion and garden allotments, to a domed student sports facility and youth centre.
Many thanks to Belina and the IAF for bringing the workshop to our school. Our participating students enjoyed the day and benefited greatly from the experience.
Thank also to Mr.Fitzpatrick for coordinating the workshop.
Congratulations to the 6th Years who competed in Team Maths yesterday. The lads won the regional competition and are headed to the national finals next month. Well done to the winning team of Joe Carter, Ben Early, David Malone and Luke Mulvihill who only dropped two points in the whole round.
