TY Graduation

Our TY students graduated today with certs in ECDL computers , enterprise , BT Young Scientist , First Aid , Gaisce , GAA Future Leaders Programme and an overall TY cert . A socially distant pizza and ice cream picnic was enjoyed by all and tommorow we travel to Kilfinane for mountain biking and river walking .

Ava Fitzgerald and Aisling O'Donoghue receiving their awards from Victoria McCarthey from the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society. Ava received second prize for her essay 'Social Change in the 1960's' where she married her own research with her grandmother's experiences of growing up in the decade. Aisling received third place for her essay 'Are We Historians?' where she explored whether or not her work researching a group class project qualified her as a historian. Well done to both girls.
Naughton Scholarships - Final Closing Date 30th May 2021

The Naughton Foundation would like to advise interested Leaving Cert Students that the final closing date for this year’s Scholarship program is Sunday 30th May. The Naughton Scholarships are a scheme of scholarships for students sitting their Leaving Certificate in 2021 who intend on studying Engineering, Science, Maths or Technology at third level in Ireland. The Scholarships are aimed at high achieving students in Science, Maths and Engineering. This year another 36 winners will be selected from each County in the Republic of Ireland. Each Naughton Scholarship is valued at €20,000 i.e. €5,000 for each year of the students third-level course. There is also a €1,000 prize for each winning school’s science lab. Full details on the Naughton Foundation Scholarship Program and a link to the 2021 application form are available for download and can be completed online on The Naughton Foundation website www.thenaughtonfoundation.ie.

LIT Summer Academy 2021

LIT Summer Academy takes place at the Moylish and Clare Street campuses in Limerick, from 9th August to 13th August inclusive. The LIT Summer Academy is aimed specifically at students entering their Leaving Certificate year in September 2021 and will give participants an opportunity to make a head start on their studies as they begin this important final year, coupled with a taste of college life, all in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
Participants select one subject to focus on across the week and can choose from the following subjects: Mathematics (Higher/Ordinary Level) Irish (Higher Level) French (Higher Level) Home Economics (Higher Level) Art (incl. Portfolio Preparation)
Three hours each morning will be dedicated to the chosen academic subject and will focus on a key area from the current Leaving Cert curriculum, followed by an afternoon of enjoyable recreational and sporting activities, set in a real college environment. An Engineering module will also be available during the week which will focus on engineering in Higher Education and career directions within the different engineering disciplines.
Full information on the subject matter covered in each discipline is available at www.lit.ie/summer-academy and the booking portal is now open, with limited places available in each subject.
Each subject will be delivered by experienced second level teachers and participants will receive a comprehensive notes manual on their chosen subject. The cost for the Summer Academy will be €290 and will include snacks, daily lunch and all sport and recreational activities. UCC Online Summer School in Entrepreneurship and Innovation 2021

UCC is running the very successful summer school online in "Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity" again in 2021. The programme has been hugely popular with second level students interested in developing their entrepreneurial skills and ideas. The programme is free with lots of great prizes to be won and runs for one week from the 5th to the 9th of July. Places will be limited and students can apply by e-mailing ronan.ofarrell@ucc.ie

TY students completed their Gaisce bronze medal with an 18km walk on the Old Kenmare Road which runs from Killarney to Kenmare with some beautiful scenery on the way . The weather wasn't the best and they had to negotiate some difficult terrain and river crossings but they stayed positive and persevered and ticked off yet another accomplishment this year . Well done to everyone .

TY students learned how to organise an event last week . They planned organised and ran a relay event through their enterprise class and had a great time competing in the relay itself .
