As the Central Admissions Office (CAO) deadline looms, students and their families are invited to a free Live Webinar with renowned careers expert, Brian Mooney who is an Irish Times education columnist and a guidance counsellor with many years’ experience, The webinar is for all senior students in Transition Year, Fifth, Sixth Years and their parents. The purpose of the webinar is to arm students and families with key information on the various options available to them upon completing their second-level education. Admission is free of charge. Although it is billed as a Mayo event, it is open to attendees from all over Ireland. There is no need to register, just go to the webinar live on Facebook.com/mayodot.ie shortly before 7pm on Wednesday, January 13.

Limerick Institute of Technology’s annual Engineering Information Evening is moving online this year and will take place on Thursday 14th January from 6.30pm – 8.00pm via the link LIT | Engineering Q&A. STEM South West’s Industry & Career Expo is happening next Weds, Jan 13th from 5-9pm. This free virtual event will showcase careers in tech, pharma and engineering and highlight achievable pathways for students to fulfil their career goals. There will be expert speakers, virtual stands, opportunities to interact with people who work in STEM on a daily basis, subject choice discussions, interactive Q&A sessions, tech and science demonstrations, career videos and prizes to be won. Students and parents can register for free tickets at www.stemsouthwest.ie. This event is aimed at thousands of students from Cork and Kerry with an interest in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, and its goal is to encourage Ireland’s future workforce to look at a career in these industries by demonstrating to them just how exciting, interesting and exhilarating these subjects can be in the real world. This unique exhibition will feature demonstrations in virtual reality, robotics and astronomy, as well as thought-provoking talks from experts in the areas of construction, information technology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, electronics, weather-forecasting, agri-technology, environmental engineering, cybersecurity and more.

A reminder to all students that classes are live from 9am until the end of the school day. Set your alarm to allow you have time for breakfast/shower/exercise. - It's important to have a good start to the day. Turn on your laptop 15mins before 9:00am. Organise your emails. Check your timetable what classes have you until 11:00p.m. Make sure you have all your materials in front of you. Have your breaks at the timetabled time. Organise yourself for the next 3 classes Make sure to have healthy lunch and get some fresh air before the afternoon classes. Organise yourself for the afternoon classes. Get some fresh air when online schooling has finished for the day. Have your snack or dinner. Take a decent break before sitting down to homework. Homework completed relax for the night - you have been on screens for most of the day try to find an alternative to screen time to relax. And finally you will be tired so it is important to get a good nights sleep. Experts tell us to get a good nights sleep we should turn off all screens an hour before sleep.
TY Masterchef Challenge

All TY students will complete the first of their lockdown challenges this week . The challenge is to prepare and cook a 3 course meal of their choice for their family . Credits awarded for end of year TY Cert and a prize for the best presented 3 courses . Ready steady cook .....

A reminder to students and parents that classes will start for all year groups at 11:55 am today. Students are expected to log into all classes including their resource classes as per their timetable. Roll calls will be taken and attendance at classes can be monitored through Vs ware, Students experiencing issues due to lack of equipment should email Mr. Prendiville or Ms Moloney. And a reminder: 1- Their School Gmail account is the gateway to our online platform. From here Teachers will use a combination of Gmail, Google Drive, Google Classroom or Google Meets to engage digitally with the students. 2- Google Meet is the platform which many of us are using to conduct Live Stream Classes. This can be accessed via Desktop, Laptop, Tablet, Mobile or any Smart Device including Gaming consoles as the attached image outlines. 3- Classes can also be Cast from a mobile device. You can "Cast" your mobile devices screen to any Smart TV or Chromecast device like you would with Netflix or YouTube. The Winners of this year's First Year Reading Challenge were Zoe Walsh, Sarah Neville, Maura Spaight, and the overall winner Tommy Clancy, who received a prize of a bluetooth keyboard! Well done to all the First Years who completed the Bookflix Reading Challenge between October midterm and Christmas.

Christmas themed non uniform day

Tomorrow is our annual Christmas Themed non uniform day. Students and teachers are asked to dress in Christmas themed jumpers or outfits and make a donation of €2 to our Christmas Appeal. All funds will be divided between Concern and St. Vincent De Paul. A reminder that the school will close tomorrow at 1:15pm. Finally we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Safe and Happy Christmass.
