April 2018 Dear Parent/Guardian, As part of Scoil Chríost Rí’s Careers Education Programme, two activities will be happening for 5th year students during this final term. Firstly, a Speed Careers evening will take place on Wednesday, May 2nd from 7.00pm - 8.30pm. On this evening students will have the opportunity to engage with people from approximately fifteen to twenty different occupations/career areas. Each occupation/career area will be given a station on the evening. 5th years students will be split into small groups of four to five students and will send an average of five to seven minutes at each station where they have the opportunity to ask prepared questions about the occupation/career area. This activity aims to give students exposure to a wide range of different career areas and opportunities before they commence preparations for completing further and higher education applications next year. This a great opportunity not to be missed. If your daughter wishes to take part, please complete the reply slip at the end of this letter and return to Ms C. Egan by Friday, April 20th. Students must attend in full school uniform. Secondly, 5th Year students will have an opportunity to complete an online Centigrade Interest Questionnaire before the end of this term (date to be confirmed). Centigrade is an interest-based questionnaire which matches a student's interests and abilities with Higher Education courses and institutions in the Ireland, the UK and those in Europe offering undergraduate degrees taught in English. Each student receives a personalised online workbook listing relevant Higher Education courses and institutions. Additional sections cover information on open days, taster courses and the application process. The Centigrade online workbook also includes course analysis forms which provide a starting point and structure for students to carry out research into their choice of Higher Education course. For further information, please also see the Centigrade brochure that was given to your daughter in school today. If your daughter wishes to complete the Centigrade Interest Questionnaire, please return the slip from the brochure along with a payment of €22.50 to Ms C. Egan by Wednesday, April 25th. Yours faithfully, _________________________________ Ms Carleen Egan (Guidance Counsellor)

It has come to our attention that there has been an increase in social media sites being set up including pictures of underage reproductive areas. We want to make parents fully aware that to have these pictures or to send them is a criminal offence. It is child pornography. Please talk to your children in relation to respect for their bodies and have open discussion with your children about this. The Gardai have advised us to make parents and students aware that this is a criminal offence.
