There was a host of activities in CPC to mark World Book Day on March 6th this year!
Students decorated classroom doors, designed literary 'bad eggs', wrote out book recommendations and reviews to mark the occasion. Many classes participated in reading classes as well.
Staff were encouraged to carry a book with them for the day to engage in conversation about books and of course we had the now annual World Book Day treats and literary pus in the staff room at break time courtesy of Ms Hanratty!
Well done to everyone for getting involved.
In addition to the Ember team's Le Cheile day activity across the whole school this morning, 6C SPHE class create a 'kindness chain' which is displayed in the main foyer of the school. Each link contains an act of kindness, such as 'hold the door open for someone, ask someone do they need help, compliment someone, write a letter to a grandparent and praise someone when they achieve something.'
Please take a moment to read a few and perhaps take one on board to do for your friends/family.
Well done to 6C for sharing some great ideas of kindness.
'No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted'
Today, March 6th 2025, is Le Chéile Day.
The theme of Le Chéile Day for 2025 is ‘Spreading Kindness in Le Chéile Schools’.
Each class was asked to take some time to reflect on and discuss achievable acts of kindness this morning.
Students were then asked to write down one act of kindness that they strive to achieve on the coloured sheet relating to their year group.
The Ember Team collected the sheets and put together a display in the foyer.
Let’s unite to spread kindness. Together we can make a difference!
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a significant period for Catholics. This 40-day season of self-reflection and discipline leads up to Easter Sunday.
Ash Wednesday is a special day of reflection. On this day, Catholics wear a marking of the cross in ash on their foreheads. The ashes symbolise our mortality – Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
The Ethos Committee has arranged for ashes to be distributed tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5th.
Ms. Kelly and Ms. Bucke will be distributing the ashes at the reception area at break time and lunch time.
All staff and students are welcome to come down to receive ashes.
We are excited to announce the start of our CPC Model United Nations Club tomorrow which will be led by Ms. Thorpe and Mr. Regan. If interested, please come along to find out more. As part of our Erasmus+ programme, we are privileged to take part in several international conferences next year.
Our 5th and 6th Year Leaving Cert Applied students visited Newlands Home and Garden Centre today as part of their Horticulture course.
Students were given a tour of the centre, a planting demonstration, and time to plant their own flower arrangements.
Students have returned to school with beautiful flowers which they will display and look after in their poly-tunnel.
A great day was had by all!
Our 5th and 6th Year Leaving Cert Applied students had a fantastic trip to the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning.
As part of their Social Education course students in LCA study the Irish Legal System.
We were greeted by our appointed Barrister and shown to courtroom 11.
He then explained in detail to our students all about the courts system and the workings of the courts.
We then sat into several courts and watched proceedings with great interest.
Well done all!
We are delighted to unveil the Erasmus mural in our school, celebrating our participation in the Erasmus Accreditation Programme. This vibrant artwork, created through the collaboration of students under the guidance of art teacher Ms. Murphy, symbolizes our commitment to international exchange and learning. The project which was coordinated by Ms. Lamont showcases student creativity and teamwork. It began with Lee Tyrell Byrne (6D) preparing the board with layers of white paint. Ms. Murphy then designed the illustration and applied the first layers of acrylic paint. Alex Landy (2C) created the 27 EU flags on the plane’s tail using rendering markers, which were laminated with help from Dylan Keogh (1B). As the mural progressed, Lucy Curtis (4A) assisted with final layers of colour and text and woodwork teacher Mr. O’Toole built the frame. The final addition was the placement of the European flag and Erasmus+ logo. The mural embodies the spirit of the Erasmus Programme and showcases the innovation and collaboration within our school community.
